Nick,
Get the dimensions of the pod filter that you intend to go with and let me know, I have some plumbing bits and pieces that we might be able to use.
Greg.

I personally wouldn't, if this was a cheap $1000 car- yeah why not, but not on an mx5, just spend the few extra bucks.

Ohhh, BD. Looks good.
But isnt that an NA version with a crossbar? Will your NB soft top fold down?

nope, NB
Both NA and NB have the crossbar, the difference is where the end attaches to, on the NB it goes from behind the drivers head to down near the passenger seatbelt.
on the NA Verson it goes from behind the driver's head to down on the passenger side parcel shelf.

Well there you go, you learn a new thing everyday.
I heard the glass window wasnt compatible with the NA version of the Brown Davis, so i assumed the NB version didnt have a cross bar at all.
Anyhow, nice purchase. I like.

New? How much?
Should have let me know you were buying... Maybe we could have got some kind of deal out of them. Look forward to hearing how your install goes, I'll be after advice sometime in the next few months

I'm a fan of you doing the DIY intake. You can do it so cheap that you wont care if it dosn't work. pod filters are like $30 these days.
Why do you want to enclose it ? Its legal to have one intake mod......and you'll miss out on the sweet intake sound
ditch the chrome ring off this thing and plumb it up the some flexable ducting VVVVV

ok, bar is sort of installed, just using the seatbelt bolts for the moment until I drill the holes for teh rest.
only thing is I suspect I may have cross threaded my driver's side seatbelt bolt
the bar fits etc, but it isnt lining up with the windblocker hole on the drivers side (only off by about 5mm) and I've put the seatbelt bolt in already..... hopefully it hasn't cross threaded from being slightly off angle *fingers crossed*
the driver's seatbelt top thing is currently a little loose too, so I can hopefully undo the bolt, bash the bar back a bit to line it up correctly, then bolt the seatbelt down again, this time lined up. Hopefully the first time hasnt ruined the thread on the nut underneath.
so yeah, fun times.
apart from that (which was my own fault for being impatient and doing it at night in the dark), no problems.
Ben, I paid $765 for the bar brand new.

Intake in the works.
the story goes, I was looking to make my own, then I saw one pop up on the forums in QLD, so I grabbed it while I was up there. the filter in it was pretty dirty so I stopped at Mania and bought a clean one on the way home.
anyway, the intake was black and chrome, I'm not a fan of chrome so I sanded the chrome back, took the old paint off, and shall respray the whole lot satin black so it hopefully will be a similar finish to the rest of the engine plastics.
anway, sadning is done and the primer's on! (one small run, but meh, I'll asnd it down when it's dry)
then I'll give it a few coats of satin black.

once it's painted I'll then buy a filter recharge kit, oil up the filter and install it into the car. then I can have obnoxious intake noise!
edit:
painted. now it's black, paint isnt dry so it wont be as glossy, it should go to a nice satin black (similar to the stock airbox finish if my test piece is accurate!)

yep, just a poly reducer to a poly pipe, intake is ~2.5 inch, not as big as the mania, but still bigger than the stock snorkel.

That shouldnt matter anyway since the throttle body is only 2.5 inch..
I'm assuming this intake draws air from the cowl? as per the loch stewart/mania style ones?

yep, same as the Mania/loch-stewart one.
just instead of being over $200 like the mania one it was about $70 ($35 for intake, $35 for new filter)
