Mark's MX-5 (finally!)

Postby NZMiata » Sat Nov 21, 2009 6:22 pm

I guess it's time for an update. The first 4 weeks of ownership have been blissful. Good thing my wife loves going for drives!

I've crossed a few things off my "to do" list. I got a new lower shift boot off a forum member for $40 posted. It really improves the feel of the shifter.

I also got brushed vent rings from the Bensales group buy. Great value for $35.

Finally, I bought some Roadster sill plates from Bensales. They look so much better than my scuffed and scratched sills.

Well, the little improvements to my car continue mostly thanks to Richard at MX5 Plus. Andrew and I went there last weekend, but I didn't buy anything (no cash - it was a spur of the moment trip :D ). Went there today and got a new rubber upper shift boot to replace my disintegrating one. My shifter shouldn't get so hot now. I also got an A/C button since mine has been missing since I bought the car.

Now the coolest part. Richard let me swap my orange side reflectors for JDM red ones. My car is red and I've always thought that the orange ones clash with the paint. Now with red ones all around they blend in very nicely. I've never seen another MX5 with red ones front and back. Maybe my car is now one of a kind

Looking good :D

I'm glad you like the bits you got off me, and I'm a big fan of the red reflectors on the red car look. Much better than orange 8)

Broady, I'm pretty sure you can pick up the read ones for about $5 ea overseas... The clear ones are worth about $100. I'll happily source some red ones and swap :P I think the clear would be better with a blue car.

Come on Mike, everybody knows that clear ones are sooooooo 2006. Red is the new clear :P

Thanks for the compliments everybody. Broady, I actually think Montego Blue looks better with clear ones. Ben is right, you can get them for $5 each from planet-miata.com in the US. I was very close to ordering 4 from them. Luckily the idea of asking Richard to swap came to me first.

Haha well at that price, I might as well try :P

I think your car needs more Skunk... or Voodoo

The pearl voodoo matches the vent rings very nicely, check out my car thread for pics

Another vote here for the Voodoo.

near perfect match for Ben's vent rings, plus gives the bonus of being nicer to hold (personal preference)

Call me boring, but I really like the stock NB gear knob that's on it right now. The shape and size feel perfect.

A couple small "mods" arrived in the mail today, but I'll keep them a secret until I get some pics.

Back with another update. I got a Mazdaspeed oil cap off eBay for only $21 plus postage. They usually sell for closer to $50 so I'm very happy. It's a really high quality piece and quite heavy being solid metal.

Now I'm thinking I need to do something with my valve cover. Maybe a wrinkle red finish?

And now for some glamour pics from a drive up Mt Tamborine 8)

That is an unfortunate licence plate.

Haha, yeah not the best plates for an MX-5. Andrew suggested that I sell them to a 121 enthusiast (isn't that an oxymoron? :P ).

If only I had a spare $6,000 to buy the "RED MX5" plates being sold by a fellow forum member. Those would look great!
