The Good: Ordered a set of RE001's today, will be fitted tomorrow.

The bad: My car started making a weird grinding noise :( Long and the short of it is that it's now at Carco with the head in pieces. I'll have more details tomorrow.

Right, so the problem turned out to be a partially seized pulley wheel on the water pump. The grinding noise was the wheel turning, grinding away the bolt rather than rotating normally. Crappy photo but check out the bolt.

Image
See the shiny half there that should be bolt? That's bad.

End result was a stripped timing belt and bust water pump, so the car basically just got another 100k service. She's all happy now.

But on another entirely good note, Woot!

Chris why does your breath smell like bait? :o
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Went down the south coast yesterday for my cousins wedding, then came back today. Almost perfect run on the way with practically no rain (not enough to bother putting the roof up). Very rarely came across traffic and most of the time it was right before an overtaking lane anyway. Even had someone in a Camry pull over on the Clyde to let me past. The run on the way home wasn't as good but still not bad by any stretch of the imagination.

The new tyres are awesome. Easily the best tyres I've had on the car.

Oh cool cool.

Just needs more low, negative camber will set itself out, and the car will look awesome.

Yeah, some variety of coilovers with a little more low is on the to-do list. Nothing in particular in mind, more just waiting to see what pops up at the right time.

TBH I'd like to think I'll be pretty happy with the car at that point and slow down for a while. I really liked my trip yesterday and just want to get some more driving in. I kinda want to get involved in some hill climbs and some more track days, which may necessitate another car but I figure we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

I'm about to start my last semester of uni and I only have to go part time at that, so hopefully there should be some more money floating around. However, my girlfriend is going back to uni this semester so there will be more spending on that front.

Left hand side headlight gave way again yesterday and collapsed on me. Was sufficiently annoyed that I put the stock ones back in :( I haven't completely given up on them yet but I sure couldn't be bothered playing with them in the immediate future.

Went for a drive yesterday! I met up with a few mates, grabbed some lunch then headed out to the Mt Stromlo observatory. I hadn't been up there since the fires came through in 2003, so it was interesting to see all the trashed buildings and random telescope debris still lying around the place. The drive itself wasn't spectacular as we were stuck behind a few slower cars and the occasional cyclist but the company was good and overall it made for a nice afternoon. Once at the top we just sat around for a while, took a few photos and had a decent look around.

I also took Andrew's (daffyflyer) clubman out for a quick run, since he's finally got it tuned. The power and noise was nice but the lack of power steering kept weirding me out. Maybe I've gone soft by having all these modern conveniences in mine, but it just didn't feel right without it. Unfortunately his clutch decided to play up and he went home shortly after. Hopefully he's got it sorted now.

We then headed south towards the tracking station and looped back around to Tuggernong. All in all it was a great day with near perfect weather the whole time. I'll let some photos do the talking now.

The Astra isn't with us...
