It looks pretty neat and tidy, nice job.

With the price of NB8A/B, especially high milers dropping like stones right now a donar car could be cheap enough. If there is a little wiggle on the 20K price and its a true drive in drive out complied and registered in your state, then its not bad value for a fun little package. I would love to drive one, doesn't bother me its stock and non turbo if it avoids reliability and compliance problems.

I can see how the renesis would be better in an MX5, they don't have a lot of torque so the weight cut would really help out when cruising (my biggest disappointment with an RX8), the thing should zing when pushed too.

Has it been to the 1/4 mile ? Would be interesting to get a straight line figure for it, we all know how they go round corners . Having said that, it might be worth taking it to your local benchmark circuit that everyone knows times for (is that Willowbank for QLD?) and setting a benchmark time. Get someone that knows the track well if you don't, should be plenty of volunteers on this forum. I have seen people talk up their 5000HP buildup and turn average times (some slower than a sorted NA6) because the thing is completely undriveable or melts/explodes/eats 3rd gear half way around the track.

It's a great concept. 1.3 litre rotor fitted legally into an NA, NB. Being stock it should be able to be engineered too.
Question is, how does it actually drive compared to a stock 5? Is there a loss in dynamics?

No offense guys but 30K for a modded NB seems a bit much, particually in terms or resale, You would be hard pressed getting 20k back?

If I had 30K I'd just go buy a Manual Supercharged Hardtop Convertable Merc SLK230.

Convertible Merc? Ugghhhh... now a 1990 E55 for around $35K would be a better choice!

You won't find many SLK's with a manual gearbox either!

They were only brought in on special order, and I know because I wanted a test drive of one, some years ago, and they couldn't even get a demonstrator for me to drive with a manual box.

Hi,my Renesis MX5 although dríven daily, wont be seeing the track anytime soon as the car is still in the build in this department (time and money permitting) but still to keep it as a daily driver also....
As for pricing on the conversion it will differ between the engine desired (eg. 12a / turbo, 13b / turbo, Renesis or (carby type rotary- not street legal)) and if you want it for the street or track!
There are too many variables to the different configurations and pricings!
The sort of people that often want this sort of conversion done anyway are the MX5 combined with Rotary Enthusiasts...

Today I was going to take it on a spin with the MX5 club up to Mt.Mee, but I woke up too late to meet them for the 8.30am assembly as I live on the other side of town and also not sure if other members would approve of this modded car tagging along! (as I have never attended any of there events before either!)

If you live in the Brisbane area it is quite likely you have seen it somewhere, as I am all over town and this being my only car and I use it for work all day everyday! (I tend to do a lot of driving between jobs..)

How many cars or modified Mx5's go on these club drives anyway??

Is there any Mx5 annual car shows in Brisbane ??? I remember hearing about one around about 8 or 9 years ago in the park under the Story Bridge.... (I missed this one and would like to go and have a look at an Mx5 only show)...

Yesterday I saw an old customer of mine with the 12a Rotary engine conversion in an NA Mx5 and he told me that this one got stolen outside his house late last year!!!! I guess someone is using it for parts now?

An average club run probably attracts 20 to 25 cars. Not sure how many of them are particularly modified... Certainly none to the extent of yours though.

Yes there was a 5 club show in Captain Bourke Park in 2000 - June 4 it was, I happen to remember it well. The club seems to be trying to arrange an event of some sort for sometime this year too, but nothing has been announced or probably even decided on yet.
