Had my first run at Wakefield with FOSC at the weekend. First time on the track, and had a ball.
Friday got about 25 laps in open practice and according to my timer, best run was 1.18.9.
Saturday practice again got down to 1.18.9. As it was a regularity event, I nominated 1.19 for the rest of the day.
With the extra traffic, I was only getting 1.20 and 1.21's.
Sunday nominated 1.20 and got a better result.
On the last stint, got sick of being held up by the V8's, Mustang, MGR, Corvette, Bolwell, and some Sunday drivers, so went all out and got 1.17.559 which was great, but pushed me down the field.
I am running an 89 NA, with a cold air intake, lowered, KYB shocks and was using my 15" road tyres.
Can't wait to return with some Advans and see what the poor little car can do, after all, its got 240,000 on the clock.

Sadly MX5 less for a while.

Thanks for the comments Hammer.
Would like to do the 6th Dec but will have to see how work etc goes.
It's a long way for a single day on the track.

Updated following the Club meeting on 6 December.
New records to:
Allan Cruz (Hammer) in his Red Clubman in the stock NA class with a 1:18.03 and
Mark Hellmund (Hellmun) in his modified Red NB8B with an unbelievably fast time of 1:10.03. Mark was kicking himself that he didn’t get a 1:09.99.
Seems like red ones are faster

Nice one guys.
Does Andrew's time of 1:10.75 qualify for a new Class 5 NB8A record?
Maybe there's something "performance enhancing" in the water in Wollongong? Either that or the steelworks emissions might be linked with more than just leukemia clusters.

Yep, fixed.
Now I can see why Mike recons it's too hard to keep track of the records for each class and model.

Are NA6As quicker than NA8As?
Class 1: NA6A 1:17.72 Bryan Shedden vs NA8A 1:18.03 Allan Cruz
Class 4/5: NA6A 1:13.57** Steve Lamont vs NA8A 1:14.78## Matt Guyder
Class 7 NA: NA6A 1:11.05** Chris Gough vs NA8A 1:13.41 Kevin Addison
These records seem to suggest so.
Nah, probably just a case of there being a lot more NA6As on the road vs NA8As
. Fingers crossed, I can keep ahead of Hammer at the next club trackday.
BTW, looking forward to seeing Hellmun crack the 1:10 barrier on 2nd/3rd May, weather permitting.

I'll be trying dam hard...but it's a pretty tall order. My regular size tyres weren't available so I'm on 225/50/15 instead of 225/45/15... it loses me about 300rpm further down 3rd on the fishhook and turn 10 which hurts a surprising amount. It puts me just under 5000rpm which borderlines me on going back to 2nd.... Then it red lines me in 4th gear just at the 100 marker for turn 10 too
Could be really cold and dry though....be fun regardless. Phil should be right up there with me too on the new suspension and tyres.

I won't be there Mark, I'm in Brisbane for my brother's wedding, so will miss SS & the Club day.
First time out on the track, if my late entry on Monday makes it, will be Eastern Creek Supersprint on the 16th, to test the Teins.

Congrats to your brother but sucks not to have you there. I was really looking forward to the challenge. I'll be asking Mike to go in the turbo class for next years comp. Hopefully I'll build my car into an SE replica as soon as supersprints finish and before the Wakefield 300. Funds permitting it'll be my last weekend in class 5 for Mx5 club.

Strewth Mark
. Considering what you've done with a naturally aspirated NB, it's sort of daunting to hear you're going turbo. Are you aiming to be more competitive in 2F? Or going the whole hog and setting up for an outright winner in 2B?

The turbo boys won't know what hit them when you turn up with a hair dryer. Are you going to try and keep it registered or will it become a track mole?
I must say that I have really enjoyed the close racing times with Andrew and yourself over the last few seasons. It has really spurred on this old bloke to try and stay with you boys. It definitely hasn’t helped my concours results or bank balance.
You still have one goal yet to achieve before you change classes, break that 1:10 barrier.
Now to see if an almost stock NC can stay within a second or two of a turbo tart……

Still doing my research on whether I can register it as a Mock SE/SP. Basic goal is to get the car running on boost with the stock motor with no changes other than the hair dryer. Get it registered as a turbo and just do club-days next year while I get get ancillaries like clutch/pistons/conrods/fuel pump etc. Then I'll see if I can make it a competitive 2F car with the CAMs 36mm restrictor. I'd love to run a 2B car but it's just too expensive right now to make that step up....I'm still gathering parts as they were available though
So far I have 460CC injectors, new chromo flywheel, SP turbo, SP factory turbo manifold, SP factory dump-pipe , SE Turbo, SE turbo manifold and BEGI separated gases SE dump-pipe. The SP turbo has the water/oil lines and stud kit on it which I still need to do for the SE gear. Then Exhaust, intercooler, sump-plug and bov and it should be it for a basic setup but I really need to consult with an engineer before I spent anymore money.
Could be interesting to see how the SE setup works on a higher compression NB motor with a 4.1 diff. So hopefully modified SE -> 2F car to -> 2B car.

Sounds like you've been working on this for a while already.
Maybe it's a good time to start that garage thread you've been promising us!
