So GURGLR is/was a 1.6 with 150 to 170 rwkw..Not sure why you bother with a supercharged Bullet though when you can get the job done with an 1.6 NA.
My supercharged 1.8 NA with 130 rwkw is down to 1.11.2 after 2 track days so should be able to get close to 1.10.4 in the next year all going well. Just need to get behind Phill or Mark at the pointy end. Can't wait till September 5...Patrick

Patrick are you going to the next club day? Any chance you could show me around your supercharged NA?

edit: Ah, just saw that it looks like you are! Great, see you then.

See you there.I bought the car of the MX5 club of NSW website, in the buy & sell section. It is still there 1 year later. You can take it out on the road outside Wakefield if you like. You will like all of those 350 torques.

Speaking to self: "Where did I leave that NB8B MX-5. I know I left it here some where. Oh that's right, they F*#@ing stole it!" lol

I'm ready for another go! Any MX-5's on loan Glenn? Otherwise another :NB8B: is a fair while off.

Also can I claim technicality on the upgraded track conditions and tyres?

Congrats Mr G Thomas! 8)

Thanks for the congrads, though I'm pretty sure that the excellent conditions on the day probably had more to do with getting the time. I guess In the interest of credibility, I'll just have to hope we get another great driving day and hopefully repeat or beat the times.

Sunday 24 October Club event saw a number of PB’s and some new class records.

The day was overcast and cool. Started around 11 degrees and probably only warmed up to around 16 degrees with a cool breeze blowing and the threat of showers but we were spared them.

The new Class 4 for standard NAs & NBs (on R-spec tyres has been added to the main list at the start of this post and the class numbering adjusted to suit.

New Class records are:

Class 1 NA8A
Allan Cruz – 1:17.10

Class 4 NA6A
Lindsay Bourke – 1:18.24

Class 4 NB8A
Ian Vickers – 1:15.84

Class 6 NC
Phil Ashton – 1:10.64

Class 8 NA8A
Colin Moore – 1:10.81

PB’s that I know of were:

Roger Palfreyman in a stock auto NC with electronics turned on 1:15.84, a fantastic feat!
Keith Monaghan NA6A 1:18.53
Peter Feutrill NC 1:13.37, catching up 8)
Steve Green NB8A 1:12.71
Ralph Thompson NC 1:12.81 (though in dispute when his next best was 1:15.67)
Luke Kovacic SE 1:13.99
Rob Young NC 1:15.02
Ian Miller NC 1:16.36

A PB for me on the day.
Philip Christie NA6A 1:19.75 - but still consistently 2-3 secs slower than Guran and Hammer.

That would be modified class. Definitely. NA6 was never available in Australia with a 6-speed or TorSen Type 2 so both would be considered non-standard modifications. It's Mike Hicks' decision though and you should ask him if you want a definitive answer. :D

Out of interest, what has been done to these cars in terms of modifications, and power outputs?

Patrick above has just purchased a road registered Turbo Na capable of 1;05 or 1;06 depending on tyres.

So hopefully he will get it down there soon to post some new times.

Mitch, the answer is not in the power output. Teruo (rain902) got it right in his sig when he said "Someone, somewhere is practising".

Mine is close to stock, making about 80rwkw and with the usual suspension mods - Teins, whitelines, torsen, superpros. It can just outdrag a good NB8A and get left behind by an NB8B. The main thing about this car is 3 years of detailed evolution of spring rates, sway bars, camber settings, brake pads, brake bias, ride heights, seat positioning, etc. So the car exactly suits the way I like to drive. Guran, on the other hand, has been brilliantly successful adapting his driving to the car he's got.

All my best times come after good practice sessions using good dataloggers. Over the course of a season Racechrono on an old Nokia is worth 3 or 4 secs per lap if you really use it between runs to analyse what's happening. The 1:13.89 came off the back of about 80 laps practice the week before.

I haven't been tempted to mod the car much because there's always the thought that I could give it to a 15 year old with 3 or 4 years kart experience and he'd beat 1:10 in it as it is.

I feel it's more fun, and probably cheaper, to try to emulate the 15 year old than spend more time under the car adding more bits. The best thing is to go out and hunt cars that you might think you don't have a chance against - porkers, skylines, lotuses, etc. MX5s are tough little cars and you can absolutely drive the nuts off them.

This would make it the fastest treaded tyres mx5, period.

The fastest 1.6, period.

And the second fastest mx5 overall.

Needs slicks for the slicks record though right?

Dann

Edit, these times were at an mx5 club ran supersprint championship day. NOT an mx5 club day, so this time does not count for records, tomorrows will though.

Cheers.

Phil, I didn't mean to imply that power was everything. I'm pretty sure that every all-motor MX5 driver knows that :P I was more curious, as mine has barely 70kw (out of two runs one was 68kw, the other was 70kw). Also it would appear that there is a substantial difference in mods between my 1:15 and the 1:14 and 1:13 that the top guys are getting. For isntance, they all seem to have coilovers, LSD, and sway bars. I have very second hand konis, and neither of swaybars and an LSD. Based on this, I think that those 3 mods may be worth the 2 seconds difference that I am lacking. Will I do these mods? Probably not, I know I can get at least half a second off of my current lap time, and until I do that I don't think I will mod anything else on the car.

Actually another interesting thing that fellow MX5 owner Nemo pointed out to me the other day, was that those top runners either a)have no hardtop, or b) have no soft top and a carbon hard top. I always run with my stock weighs-as-much-as-a-small-car hard top, which would be good for some time in there as well.

It's just interesting I guess to see the differences in modifications between your car (and Tony's) and mine.

Also, Phil, would you happen to have a video of you driving WP? I would be interested in seeing the lines that you are using. I have been trying a few different strategies with racechrono and think I have found the best one. Here is a video I did a while back. After uni finishes I will find a way to put the racechrono data onto the video, which should be interesting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulX175O7md0

Awesome day at Wakefield for the club trackday today. A few new records I think. The most entertaining was Mark Hellmund setting a new record in Class 5 (modified 1.6L) ... 1:12.99 driving Tony Williams' car for the first time ever! Tony was NOT impressed  ! So Tony jumped back in for the last run of the day and reportedly did a 1:12.8 something. So there. 8)

Oh and that damn Hellmund character beat his Class 6 record (modified <2L) with a 1:09.35!

Patrick did a 1:08.44 today ... but retired early when he snapped off the throttle cable. His time yesterday will count as a club record anyway, since it was done at a Supersprint round representing the MX-5 Club (the round was also run by the club - so there's even more reason to count it).
