I found the same thing when I replaced the Kumho's on my rims.

It would be interesting to see all the actual sizes of all r spec tyres of a similiar size. But, ultimately it comes down to the tyre that will give you the best lap times compared to price and how long they last. I was going to keep running the toyo's and just use the kumhos to do one hot lap during every event. If they are at all faster, they did feel pretty good. I will find out for sure at winton if the weather is good.

I'm sure with 5mins on google you could find all the specs..

Though it's definitely something to keep in mind for those with higher horsepower who currently run a 205/50 and need(want?) to step up to a 225/45 expecting to get a wider footprint as the above shows this is not always the case..

I kissed the wall at sandown, well more of a full on pash really. I had been on the new kuhmo's all day and decided to throw the old toyo's on for the rest of the day since i already set an impressive 1:36 more than 5 seconds better than my previous best. Anyway the toyo's where dead cold and the rears are really old. But they felt really good so i went for a bit of a showey power slide in front of the crowd, but it didn't have the grip like the kumhos had and it let go too much and i corrected it and almost got it back but 2 wheels went on the grass and i was just a passenger from then on. I left the video on in the pits, so unfortunately the memory card was full and didn't get any footage.

It looks like i might be reshelling it now. It kind of works out costing about the same to fix it in money and time as it will be to reshell it. So i have to make a decision soon which way to go. I would like it to be done within the next 2 weeks and costing under $1,000. See how i go hey.

Awesome post..........wished I hadn't read it actually as I now feel the mod bug big time.

I would be interested in prices weight of carbon fibre products you have installed on the NA. Actually, I have an NB8A but don't suspect there would be that much diff in price.

I would be happy to get my car down to less than 1100kgs. Currently just under 1120 on 17 inch wheels, 1105 on 15 inch lightwweight rims and slicks.

The only consideration re weight reduction would be to remove my passenger seat which should drop weight to around 1095 kgs.

Then again I could lose 7kgs myself....LOL.

The biggest weight saving once you have taken out all the unnecesary bits that mazda thought the car needed like a passenger seat, carpets, a/c, etc. Is to remove the soft top and fit a c.f hardtop. If your keen the doors too. Total weight saving is a massive 80 kg's over a car running steel doors a soft top and a normal hardtop.

Can you clarify. Are you saying that a carbon fibre hardtop weighs less than a softtop?

I managed to strip all the easy stuff over two of the babies sleeps, ther really wasn't much on the car to start with so all up about 2 hours work. I will pull out all the running gear, brakes and suspension tonight. Then i will prep the new shell and send it straight down to get painted. I will be painting the doors too. What colour do you think it should be?? I was thinking white as it looks clean, with a black bonnet, c.f roof and black windscreen pillars.

Thanks to james at mx5 centre i now have a replacement chassis. And with some arm twisting i managed to get it home tonight so i can get a start on it. As this car is my practice car till the nb is finished (which is now being delayed again) i will be keeping it fairly mild so i can register it and drive it on the road. I will keep the red car and get it repaired when i have the time, as it's not too bad and it has a half cage already in it. (you never know i might smash this one too one day)
