Just had a look at Performance Box that was attached to my car back on 19 October 2009.
With a best lap then of 1:12.20, my car at that stage was running second hand D01's, adjustable sways and King Springs.

Compared to the best BFYB results the corner speeds read:

Turn 2 NC - 90.91, 370Z - 85.21
T3 entry NC - 127.86 but falls away as entry to T4 approaches. GT-R 117.66 but where I don't know.
T4 NC - 96.89, Clio 200 83.6
T8 (Fish hook) NC - 67.02, GT-R 66.45
T10 NC - 68.16, 330d - 60.82

The back straight top speed was 145.15 but the figure that cruels the NC was top speed down the main straight - 161.32, only the Golf GTD, the Mito and the Alto were slower!!!

9.4kg/kW will do that Phil (see below). Very impressive corner speed you had there. For turn 3, you need to look up your slowest speed which should be pretty close to the apex. Even I have to lift off to turn in on this corner, so you inevitably end up with a minimum corner speed here. Turn 9 on the other hand is just constant acceleration for me so I don't see a minimum corner speed there.

This shows why weight/power ratio is so important at Wakefield Park.

I swapped over the axes for this version, and added my two PB laps on street tyres and R specs.

Hey Bryan; just out of curiosity, what's your speed for the apex of Turn 4? I tend to keep a smooth and constant arc / speed through 4 & 5 and am wondering how other (ie. faster!) people handle it.

Thanks...

Turn 4 is slightly quicker than turn 5 for me. I'm flat on the throttle from the turn 4 apex, and lift for turn in before turn 5. Have a look at my YouTube videos for confirmation. :)

Interesting.

A few of us hired Rick Bates for a day's training at WP, a few years ago when I was running the GM. FWIW, he reckoned that nothing was faster than the GM over the top of the circuit (he didn't nominate who was the driver, but somehow I don't think it was me  ).

I have to say that I am very impressed with the improvement in lap times being put down by the road registered cars, certainly puts my PBs into the deep dark shade  . Well done everyone!!

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

oooh - what's that Miata 20 Years book?

Haven't got that one.

That Roadster book is the ultimate. Particularly if you own, say, a red NA6...

I'm halfway through the 20 years book. It's a bit of a hotchpotch but still a good read. Helps you appreciate even more why the MX-5 is such a brilliant and important car. Doesn't have much on the Japanese side of the engineering work for the NA, but I've got that covered with the Roadster book. I've quickly flicked through that book and all those glorious engineering drawings, CAD schematics and graphs have got me "aroused".

Isn't that an NA8 on the cover of the Roadster book? Sacrilege! Should have been an NA6!

BTW, here's the chapter list for the 20 Years book. A bit cryptic but gives you a rough idea of what's in it.

1. GIs and MGs (background to the appeal of roadsters in the USA)
2. Roadster reborn (detailed coverage of Bob Hall's pitch and the prototype development by the American team)
3. Birthing pains (comments from Tom Matano and Mark Jordan on the Japanese build development)
4. The dream comes true (launch at the Chicago Motor Show)
5. Crunch time (testing in the US)
6. A rewarding experience (derivation of the "Miata" name)
7. Love at first delight (press and public reactions to the NA6)
8. Red, white, or blue, and then British racing green (various colours and special editions for NA)
9. Even better the second time around
10. Pace car for a roadster revolution
11. Third time: Still a charmer
12. The monster and other mutations
13. Off to the races
14. Miatamania
15. The next 20 years
16. Encore

I'm all set for the NSW Supersprint at Eastern Creek tomorrow, sharing the track with about 100 other drivers. If I can find another 0.8s off my PB (2:01.408) I'll have the Class 1A record for this track too. I've got a few new things I want to try, like taking turn 1 flat without lifting (I can get through there with up to 160km/hr Vmin), holding 4th for turn 4 (usually drop to 3rd but it washes off too much speed), and apexing turn 5 earlier (need to carry a bit more corner speed up the hill). Fingers crossed it pays off.

Woo hoo! New PB at Eastern Creek Supersprints today.

2:00.734

Not quite good enough to beat the Class 1A record though. Missed it by 0.13s! That's about six metres difference at the finish line.

I gave everyone some laughs with a few entertaining offs too, once at turn 12 (again!), ran wide onto the gravel after turn 4 (doing this in 4th was asking too much), and then at turn 8 (much scarier). No damage done and no messy laundry either.

Thanks guys. Chris, in all honesty you'd be better asking Mark Hellmund or Tony Williams. They're much more experienced than me, and are doing even more remarkable times. For example, Tony has a PB of 1:56.868 in his Class 2A modified NA6.

Actually we were talking about doing a SOTS day at Wakefield someday, and putting our keys in a hat for each run. The aim being to see what each of us can do in the other's cars, under the same conditions. Would be fun! Just need to find a clear date in a busy calendar.
