Ando's MX5

Postby s13deviat » Sun Sep 05, 2010 6:09 pm

Well after many veichles, V8's, turbo's and recently (8 months ago) a track/street S13, i took the plunge and gave into my bestest buddies (evil weevil) pleeds to join the hairdresser ranks

So with a very very tight budget of $7K, i knew immediatley i would be only within the NA6 budget, or a clapped out, nasty NA8. I went out and scoured the market for something that tickled my fancy. Seeing that $6K would get you a stocker NA6 i knew i would end up spending money on exhaust, suspension, rims etc etc within the first few weeks. So i also checked for some that had some of these mods already for $7K. Well i missed out on one, but then i found my boss wanted to sell his red NA6

So long story short, handed over a chq for $7k and took the keys. It has been sitting around for a very long time say 2-3 years with very little time actually being dríven. So it certainly needs some TLC and sproosing up! But this is all A OK with me as i know how the throw a spanner around and love tinkering.

Specs are as follows:
Red 91 NA6 Soft top
181,000kms
Pod Filter
Exhaust
Pedders Suspension
16" rims
Stereo
SAAS Steering Wheel
Red leather interior

Not many mods, but i consider a decent buy for $7K.

Already done an oil change on it today with some Castrol 10w 60 which was fun times,... fark me could they put the oil filter in a more inconveniant place?!?!?! Anywho, got it done and found out it needed a good radiator flush as overflow had a nice toxic sludge in it.... did a half arsed effort as i am going to upgrade the radiator ASAP. So will do a proper flush then.

Mod list to come so i can go play with the other MX5's on the track

Radiator
Rotors/pads
seat/harness
Brown Davis rollbar
Kill switch
15" rims / semis

Other bits i want but not on the immediate list

GV Lip
Air Intakes
Clear indicators

Okay now for the issue i am having and hoping someone can chime in. The oil pressure gauge is on drugs or something.... it reads fine about 70% of the time, the other 30% it dances around like a raver and sometimes drop to 0 when idle at lights.. Now i know its got oil, its flowing, but wtf is the gauge doing.... A quick search on here suggests its a dirty or rusty terminal on the sender!??!?! This sounds right? If so where the fark is the this terminal / sender?? LOL Any tips would be bonzer!

Ha! I thought you were talking about my 5 for a minute there?!!?

Looking good. That interior reminds me of a scarab speedboat somehow...
Very cool. :NA6:

This place needed more Ando's...

Ando

Welcome to the obsession.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

The sender is just above the oil filter.. If you can somehow get a light and look down there, you'll see the wire running to the unit.

It's a royal pain to get to!!

Slotted rotors

Will be taking the misses DSLR this weekend for some happy schnaps of the riced up 5

All coming together now! Just need BD Bar, seat, A1RM's and some cheapo 15" rims to chuck some shagged R888's (spanks evil weevil) onto!!!!

Welcome aboard Ando. So is the plan to go racing or supersprints/trackdays? If the later, why wait until Jan/Feb? You could come and play at the next club trackday on 24th October. 8)
