mr benders MX5 build up

Postby mr bender » Sat Jan 29, 2011 12:40 am

Hey guys

im new here and only just brought this .

Ever since my Dad finshed his sports car late last year which is only 640kg and have a blacktop 20v with 130hp at the wheels
iv come to realize that light cars rock!

so fun the just throw into the corners.

and after building up a 360hp at the wheels starion which is nuts on the track/road/drags.
i needed something a could drive around easy.

so when this MX5 came up for sale i couldnt really help myself.
it had the all the right stuff for a good track car!

i picked it up the other day for a good price.

it goes hard for a Mx5.

It has a Trust TDO5 16G turbo kit ext Gate
Trust intercooler kit
2,5in exhaust
it did have a NOS 30 hp shot but i took it out.
wolf 3D plug and play ecu
sports shocks with damper control
some fuel pump
it does have a rebuild motor but i have no idea whats in it.

and needs work.

short term list of things to do:

:The car has been hit in the front and has been fixed cheap and nasty.
so we realine front guards, lights, bonnet, front bar and paint it.

: fix up the shitty kit intercooler pipes and intercooler

: mount the radiator and fans because they where just sitting there.

: fix a oil leak/s

: just a all round clean up (engine bay , etc)

friday i got stuck into it
oil change
leads
cam cover gasket
cam cover paint
removed the NOS kit
removed the gauges that where on the dash, there where 4 of them.
and stole my sisters wheels off her car.

saturday/ sunday

body work time .
panel and paint

its a cheap taiwan bonnet so we couldnt get a nice gap inbetween the head lights and front bar and also the front bumper frame was welded on so we couldnt really move it to where we needed it but all and all it fits ok.

pictures explane how the days went:

Congrats, and welcome to the obsession :).

That's some great work you've done there with the new paint!

thanks guys

i gave it a wash , took off the over spray that went on the window.
the colour is not perfect but it looks alot better than it did.

will try and get some stuff together i need washer jets , bonnet rod ,side blinkers and a catch can.

i need to poilsh it and start fixing the intercooling pipes and intercooler and mount the radiator and get another small skiny thermo to make room in front of the engine.

Have you thought of putting your washers on the plastic cowl panel and closing the holes on the bonnet to give it a cleaner look. You'll have to play around with getting the wash angles right. If you decide to do this and before you close any holes make sure you can get enough water on the screen when the car is stationary and moving.

G'day Glen,

Welcome to the obsession, spotted your post on Antilag, nice to see anther WA member here.

Make sure you check out www.mx5club.com.au, would be great to see you get involved in some motorsport with the club.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't built by wheelspin.com.au, i'm sure Les will pipe up sooner or later about where it came from.
