Re: QLD Club: Track Day Schedule
So, are we going to organise a group get together at a Motorkhana and Hill Climb event, or is it going to be left to the individual ?

Re: QLD Club: Track Day Schedule
I think the hillclimb/motorkhana bits and dates are yet to be confirmed. I understood from the briefing on Monday that the plan will be released in the near future. Contact Mark for info if in doubt.

i must have misunderstood his explanation will wait for details. Thought he said it was up to us to compete, and give him the results.

Re: QLD Club: Track Day Schedule
Hmmm...my understanding was yes, it would be up to individuals to enter events and get the results but that the motorkhana and hillclimb event dates would be nominated - maybe I got it wrong

It's up to use to tag alone with other clubs

Re: QLD Club: Track Day Schedule
The MX-5 Club could not afford to hire and run the Mt Cotton hillclimb. It's easier and cheaper for individuals to enter a nominated MG CC organised event as they specialise in running hillclimbs. To my knowledge, there has never been an MX-5 club organised hillclimb event and there are only three or four MX-5s currently competing at Mt Cotton anyway. The Holden Sporting CC specialise in running motorkhanas, so the same applies to motorkhanas. Why do we need to reinvent the wheel?

Correct, you are not appreciating something you haven't experienced. Willowbank is boring by comparison. Morgan Park is good but 150 km from Brisbane.

Maybe it looks boring because i am such an excellent, smooth , cool driver!
Maybe you are not seeing the elevation changes and variable off camber, multi apex corners.
And the 180kph kink in the main str8.
It is a very challenging, entertaining track. QR-Willowbank is very subdued compared to Lakeside.
And Morgan Park is over 2 hours drive each way from Brisbane.
Sort of eats into an afternoon session

Yeh, could be!

There don't seem to be many elevation changes in the video. But that is something that you don't see in videos. Oran Park was defined by plenty of elevation changes, and Eastern Creek, Phillip Island and Wakefield Park have their fair share too. As for the 180km/hr kink, somehow I doubt my stock NA6 would be up there to experience it. Turn 1 at Eastern Creek doing 160km/hr for 90 degrees is scary enough, so I can hardly imagine what that 180km/hr kink is like.
It is a very challenging, entertaining track. QR-Willowbank is very subdued compared to Lakeside.
Interesting. The QR track looks to be tight and technical in places, so I expected it would be more fun than Lakeside. Ah well, I must try to get up there some day and try them all!

Only two hours?

Re: QLD Club: Track Day Schedule
Guran most videos don't do Lakeside justice, it really is an awesome track. The fastest recorded lap time of Lakeside equates to the highest average speed of any race track in Australia, including Philip Island and Bathurst. Cars and drivers who are capable, apparently only brake twice per lap, and are on full throttle the rest of the time!
Elevation changes are not dissimilar to those experienced at Philip Island. It is also fairly narrow, with very little margin for error, and combined with blind crests and turns, some off camber sections, and very little run off areas and two small gravel traps, it also holds the not so glamorous record of the most fatalities of any race track in Australia. It really is well worth the visit!!
And yes, we have it good up here with two tracks less than an hour drive from most parts of Brisbane. Morgan Park seems like a major hike by comparison, but those of us in the know are happy to take the trip to Morgan Park.
