Minxie

Postby MNC23 » Wed Apr 27, 2011 10:25 pm

Hi Everyone :D

We have just bought an MX-5! Her name is Minxie and she's a red 1989 NA6. We have both never really been car people, but we are totally in love with Minxie. We found her on eBay, jumped on a plane to Sydney, drove the extra 2.5 hrs to St Georges Basin in a hire car and then drove all the way home to Hervey Bay, Qld.

We don't know much about cars, but we do know that she has:

- cold air intake
- power chip (not exactly sure what this is or where it is, but they told us she has one)
- front air dam
- 17 inch American Hart Racing Alloys
- full sports suspension

She's in pretty good condition. The paintwork is a bit dodgey in places but to be expected for such an old car. The top is like new, the low profile tyres are brand new, aircon works, new cd player. She had a road worthy in NSW and all they found was a rattle in the heat shield. The rattle gets pretty bad when she's hot and the aircon is on but we are planning on fixing that, somehow. So we are hoping to get a QLD roadworthy done tomorrow so we can get her registered in our name and we can put on the new personalised plates :D

We love cruising around with the top down and the freedom she gives us!

Another Minx!
or Minxie. Lucky our car doesn't read the forums, she would get a bit upset.

Welcome. Looks like a very clean and tidy example.

Love the looks of classic NA with the right rims.

"Minxie" - sounds like MINX's gay brother :P

On a serious note though, your rims are from an MX5 SE (or MazdaSpeed Miata, aka MSM, as it's known in the US) and are 17x7 Racing Hart rims, not "American Hart Racing Alloys". These are quite heavy, 8kgs each, are uncomfortable to drive on and you'll fear that every pothole has dented your rims when you hit them. Many SE/MSM owners, myself included, have switched to 15" rims instead (eg. I have 15x8 6UL rims which are a tad over 6kgs each), they're lighter, handle/ride better and tyres are MUCH cheaper - just something to consider when you next need tyres (ie. consider changing the rims too).

Welcome to the obsesssion - once you have an MX5, you "get" why owners love them so much (and miss them if they sell them).

Welcome to the obsession. Did you win a bid for it or was it a classified ad ?

While you were brave to buy off Ebay it seems that you were lucky you found a great car.

I am sure it won't be long before the modification bug strikes you :)

Thanks for the welcomes and compliments on Minxie, we thinks she's beautiful too :D

snshami - yes we were very brave! But we figured the photos looked great and we allowed for the fact that cars always look better in photos, and the guy sounded very genuine and it had a roadworthy. We also figured that we know nothing about cars and even if we did have the chance to test drive we wouldn't know what we're looking at anyway! We arranged with the guy to buy Minxie before the auction ended but we did end up winning it though as he didn't know how to take the auction down. And yes, we already want to do modifications. Not much though. Firstly just the speakers and then maybe just buy some cool bits and pieces we find.

Lokiel - we weren't sure what the rims are. I just went off what the ebay ad said. They do have the Mazda symbol in the centre. Thanks for the suggestion. We'll remember that and definitely look into maybe changing the rims when we get new tyres if they are much cheaper, but we really do love the look of the ones she's got. And BTW Minxie is female and we will never, ever sell her!

The roadworthy man didn't come today  but he said he'll come tomorrow :D
