Awesome project. 8)

Mind sharing the cost of the car vs. money you will make/have made back from selling interior parts?

Are you using dry ice for that sound deadening? Makes easy work of it. Even lifting that stuff up on a cold day/night helps a lot!

The rollbar padding was already on it when I bought it, but the previous owner (zoomzoom) said it is "the proper stuff".

As for the sound deadening over the tunnel; I used a heat gun and I would highly recommend NOT using this method! For the stuff on the floor I am going to use dry ice. I pulled the dash over the easter holidays so I wasn't able to get any dry ice at the time, removing the tunnel stuff at least allowed me to put the dash back in without waiting until after the break.

The car is almost ready for some shakedown testing!

I've done pretty much everything I want to, except changing the gearbox and diff fluids and getting a wheel alignment. I also need to get the muffler flange relocated but I will get MX-5 Plus to do this.

Hopefully the car will seem some track time in the very near future. To begin with I'm going to run with the 5 year old Yokohama S Drive tyres that it came with, obviously not going to break any records with those but they will be fine to learn the car and find any issues.

Cheers

Sorry if it is a bit confusing - the car looks like an NB8A but the Jap build plate says NB8C!

Naming standards vary between countries. What we call an NB8A the Japs call an NB8C. Does it have a VVT engine?

Nope, and it has the 99-00 front bar, headlights and tail lights.

When I'm consistent and I get bored I might throw in a 2871!

Lots of updates!

Lokiel was kind enough to donate his stock SE shock tower brace, which includes a catch can I'm going to plumb in. Here's the filthy engine bay with added bling:

I spoke to John Kirk from GP Cars and he gave me the run down on how to mod a Sparco Sprint to suit a 5 or 6 point harness. There's no cutting involved, just a bit of thread unpicking. Here's a picture including my daughter's finger in her role as a future hand model:

Here's the car sitting out the front of my patriotic neighbour's house. You can also see the brake upgrade:

First event should hopefully be on the 24th of this month out at Queensland Raceway. Just a shakedown to make sure everything is in order. I'll be running on the 5 year old Yokohama S Drive tyres, so don't expect any broken lap records!

Cheers

I only just noticed the reason why you stated your neighbour's patriotism! :D
It's barely in the pic. Nice work on the shot.

Car looks good, so I hope it goes as well as you hope.

The car had it's first outing yesterday and it was awesome!

Here are a couple of iPhone pics:

The only issue I had all day was the car sometimes dropping a cylinder, but this was due to a plug lead not being pushed in properly.

I also swapped the steering hub to a slim NRG one to bring the dished wheel back to roughly where the stock wheel would be. It felt much more natural after the change.

I had a few offs I think mostly due to the limited grip available from the old/hard street tyres I was using. Here's one example where I got into a slide around turn 2, I decided to bail & let off the opposite lock as I didn't want the car to snap back into the Porsche GT3 behind me:

Also here is a video of a lap of the Clubman configuration after we slapped on some 6ULs with 595RS-R tyres:

All in all it was an awesome day and the car has a great dollar to fun ratio!!!

Car looks great.

Jeremy Clarkson proved in the Top Gear special "Three Wise Men" that you don't need all cylinders running in an MX5 anyway :P

Not sure from the above post if the Ni 6ULs were yours or not?
If they aren't and you're considering getting a set, get the bronze 6ULs, they'd look awesome on your car.
