Re: Josh's Na6
Sorry guys, just a little annoyed with myself.
I feel like all my 'progress' on the car has been a lost cause. I'm not going to flip out and do something stupid and sell it off.
It's just that the whole plan I had to begin with for this car and the reason I bought it has been lost and forgotten somewhere along the line and it's not where I wanted it to be.
I originally bought this with the intention of having something to build for the track but also drivable on the street until I can afford another car as a daily driver then retire the mx5 off the road altogether. The car was supposed to be a track toy from day one. That's why I was looking at cheap silvias and so on before I folded and got the mx5.
Somewhere I forgot that and I've kept striving for all these different things like a dog with a bone. It just made me feel like an idiot. Well, a disappointment to myself in that I couldn't follow a plan I set out MYSELF.
I was looking at my build thread before I posted on here tonight and it brought all this up. It's an odd feeling when you sit back and think "this isn't what I planned".

No need to delete the thread just because of that though. If you're taking a new direction, sure, but there's no need to ignore what you've already done. I think later on you'll like having this thread as a full document of your history with the car.

Re: Josh's Na6
I wouldn't be worried about the scope of your project taking longer than you thought or creeping into other areas you didn't expect... 2 years in and while I've done a whole heap of stuff I still look at the car and think 'dayum I haven't even scratched the surface of what I want to do here!' and it probably never will be done.
As long as the car is still fun for you and you still enjoy working on it. And if working on it gets a bit frustrating... get out there for a blat out of the traffic light hell we live in! I've only had one good drive for months now its a bit depressing.

Does anything ever go exactly as planned?
It's a funny one Josh, i know exactly how you feel. In retrospect, you have done a lot to your car. If you write down a mods list, including all the DIY stuff, i think you will shock yourself. Over a longer amount of time, it does not seem as substantial.
I have personally found that if you have people around you who can load money into their cars and get all the mods at once, it gets to be a bit draining on your goals for your own car. You want to get everything done as quickly as possible and to the best possible standard. This can produce quite an underwhelming end result, it creates stress and saps your bank account. Plus, when is a car project ever complete?
Your building something that will turn out great, there are many things that would make it better, hence the reason to add modifications. For now and for every further step, enjoy your car for what it is, the best 2 seater roadster ever built!
Lastly, look at your thread views, more than mine

Plan changes but that's the reality and the fun and experience is something real.

Re: Josh's Na6
Ok it's service time!!!!!!!!!
This weeks plans are to finally replace my shot plugs and leads... I'm absolutely sick of the car running on 3 cylinders under 3k. I've been broker than MC Hammer lately so in terms of working on my car I "can't touch this"... But this week is pay day woot! So it's time to get back onto this stuff.
Kitten needs some oil too. It hasn't been burning it lately which is good but it's pretty low now. But I attribute that to revving the hell out of it on a few spirited drives lately. Going to try out a thinner oil maybe. I've been filling it up on HPR30 for the last 6 months but I think I can get away with something thinner. Might run a little smoother and quieter.
In terms of fuel economy though, I used to get max 320kms out of a tank thereabout (400kms hwy). After altering the idle (thanks to Bensale for his wisdom!) I noticed I get about 290km's driving out of HALF a tank!!!! Economy has gone right up XD
Very very happy with that!!
Haven't got any photo's to upload upload on progress.... But I did manage to get photo's of my two other mx5's.

Turns out the Revell kit comes with optional Racing Beat front and rear bumpers!
