To be honest I didn't even have a deadline, it was more of a goal because there's a meet in Brisbane on Monday that I really wanted to drive myself there for. It was hard work and I admit I was slightly worried that I wasn't going to make it when I couldn't find the right ball joint boots, but I got there in the end, and man, it's a nice feeling.

Yeah it was a legitimate roadworthy too, no shortcuts. Mainly because I work for a dealership and it's sort of a quality control thing to not do dodgy roadworthies, and not to mention the fines that involved...($50k plus)

So keen to take this to the mountains with a full tank with some mates and just drive, get a feed, then drive some more haha.

Unfortunately most of my mates and their vehicles are either too fast or too slow for me in an MG...

3 or 4 passes at the speed limit should do it, thats only 6 or 7 times the average recommended cornering speed. :evil:

Haha I wish guys, it's a little far away though...I live about an hour and a half north of brissy...I'll be doing that soon on some of the local passes though.

More update:

Really happy with this thing so far, power is pretty weak but that's one of my least concerns. After I cleaned underneath it for the roadworthy, I got it back up on the hoist on Saturday to change the engine + diff oil and found the other oil leak (already knew tapper cover gasket and cam sensor o-ring were leaking). It was coming from the clutch fork dust cover on the bell housing. This means I'm up for an input shaft seal, rear main seal, clutch kit and flywheel...oh goodie. I'll probably just keep an eye on the engine oil and gear box oil and keep topping either one up until I can afford all that.

I was bored last night so I did the tappet cover gasket and gave the tappet cover a good clean out. The gasket was so old and brittle, especially for what should be rubber haha. It was the same deal for the cam sensor o ring lol.

I also properly mounted the gps on the driver's quarter glass and ran the cord with the door loom, pretty happy with how it turned out. Did some other sh*t I think as well.

Le turning device:

This was a bitch, but getting it to this point was just plain awkward. I could be a porn star with some of the angles I was in trying to get good vision/space under the dash.

Oh man, this was sh*t, especially prepping the head for the new gasket because the last time it was done whoever did it last used gasket sealant around the whole thing...sigh, some people have no clue.

Also messed with the timing a bit and got it to idle around 800 rpm. I don't have a timing light but when I get my hands on one I'll do it properly and adjust the base idle too. It splutters a bit under hard accell. at low rpm so I'll get some new plugs and leads as well as clean the throttle body and see if this helps. Probably a new air filter will be on the cards too. This will all come when I get some more dosh on the magical plastic.

Got bored this arvo and decided to permaban the door cards...3 hours later and my hate for inside the door sticky black sh*t has been taken to a new level.

When I can be bothered I'll buy another 12v socket and move it to under the dash so it frees up the cig lighter for a phone charger or maybe an mp3 transmitter thingy. It will look tidier too.

Also decided I couldn't be bothered painting my other mirror so I separated both the mirrors and took the snapped shitty bolt out of the white mirror housing and and replaced it with the good one from the other mirror. I'll keep those as spares incase something else breaks later on:

I had the same leak around the clutch fork boot.

Box and engine out, its just a super super bad rear main. The gearbox gasket and input seal was fine, its was just being flung off the back of the flywheel outward and some was hitting the clutch fork boot and coming through.

oh that's good to know, I'll probably change the input seal while I've got the gearbox out, no reason not to, and if it does leak then it will save me dropping the box out twice. If pictures get taken of the car tomorrow night at the JdmST end of month meet, I'll be sure to put them up here too so everyone can get a better idea of what I'm dealing with. I'll probably get some shots of my own too.

haha you talking about the wheels, doors or tappet cover? no idea what the stuff I used on the wheels is called but the doors were compliments of good old australian export and about 3 hours worth of elbow grease with a rag. tappet cover was the same stuff except I was armed with a mini wire brush, one of the handiest tools aye. SP do a kit of 3, they're a bit smaller than toothbrushes, one's brass one's steel and one's nylon, all handy in their own respects. Good price as well at <$10 a set. Also a fair bit of time cleaning things up.

I found out the name of that stuff, I got photos of the labels for ya...although turns out it's kinda useless to you anyway. I asked the detailer and he said that it isn't available to the public. Apparently we're supposed to use like full arm length rubber gloves and like gas masks and sh*t haha. Hectic stuff aye. I'll put the pics up of the labels later on for ya so you can do a bit of research, one's called "veet degreaser" and the other is called "acid cleaner" I think.

Got my plugs and leads sorted yesterday, running heaps better now. It's just a temporary fix for now, some cheap ngk's and a set of "eagle" leads from car bits, 7mm. eventually I'd like to look into better plugs and either magnacore 8.5mm leads or go all out with a COP conversion. If anyone has any other ideas, let me know

Not sure if I mentioned it in another post but my driver's door handle broke and I still haven't fixed it. It's fun being 6ft tall and climbing in and out of the passenger side...Does anyone know what I can do? easy fixes? I'll probably try to pull it apart but it's a bit hard with the door shut, kinda glad I took the door cards off now haha.

Sorry, should've been more specific. Both handles are okay physically and with the door cards off everything LOOKS to be doing as it should, except whether locked or unlocked, it doesn't open. I haven't had a good look at what's inside there with a torch yet, but I did read somewhere that this is common and it's most likely a spring or something inside the mechanism that's broken, I forgot where I read it though. Any truth to this claim?
