16x8 wheels, tyres and brakes. $2.5k

Postby frostex » Fri Aug 19, 2011 10:20 am

Car is a 2001 NB.

Tax man was very genourous to me this year and i have allocated about $2.5k for the following items.

16x8 light weight rims (offset - whatever will fit), 205/40-45 tyres (street legal and "acceptable" in the wet, but i only really drive this car in the dry with the top down and occasional track time :D ), A bigger brake kit. My rear rotors and pads are due for replacement soon anyway so i would prefer a front+rear brake kit.

Can anybody reccomend me some items to be looking at. The only rims ive found lighter than stock in 16x8 is the GTR superlites, and a lot of websites do not list the weights :? so any reccomendations for under 15lb? Tyres and brakes i have yet to start researching, any models i should be specifically be looking at?

If you're in the market for wheels I would very much consider going a 15" rather than 16". Tyre options are much more numerous and they'll be cheaper. A bit more tyre than 16's will give you is good for the handling too. :)

Am currently searching for a good performance tyre in 16" and the options are quite a bit more limited. We're looking at Toyo R1R or T1R, or Federal RSR's at this stage.

Big brake kits will mostly be fine on 15" wheels as well... MINX has just put an awesome Wilwood kit onto his car with 15".

Wheels to consider in 15"s are of coure the Superlites and there's also 949Racing 6UL's, a number of Work wheel options, Enkei RPF1's perhaps... all very popular wheels and very very good. Well they are ones I like anyway!

Kumho Ecsta XS KU36 in 215/45R16 @ $144 is the cheapest size they (Option1) have. For some reason the 15" is $170.
Toyo T1R is a step down.
Might I also suggest the much maligned Falken RT615 @ $150

Thanks for that! We'd been thinking of sticking with 205 but there's very little options with that width. The 215 Khumo's may be the way to go.

Dont waste your money getting different brakes, the ones on a NB8B are very good...just get yourself some better pads, maybe some slotted rotors.
NC Roadie, NC Racey, ND Racey….and a 30AE

Plus several others in the bone yard...
