I bought the car 5 months ago and the exhaust system is not stock.
It has genie extractor and hitech muffler, both are australian brand according to my research. Later on i have installed an open air filter, just wondering what's next to change to improve performance? Do i need a new extractors or muffler?
How much power advantage i have now comparing to stock?

Thank you.

My bro letting me borrow his Sparco seat pulled off from his car. It's a Sparco Chrono i think.
I have tried to pull my stock seat out, but the bolts are stuck and have try to spray WD-40 but still not working,
So i did pay for a mechanic for 50 bucks, which is not bad, to do the Job. I just drill two more holes on my stock rail and that's about it.
If anyone want to know the workshop:
PROWORKS - 553 Bunnerong rd, Matraville
Richard - 0414588221 just tell him from Jeremy.
Nothing special about the workshop; but if anyone need little bits like me, he's fine with the job.

Nice seat! Did it fit right in and can you slid it back and forth without it rubbing on anything?

You need a new catalytic converter and midpipe. And an open air filter will not improve power alone. Get a cowl intake, like the mania one.

Really? It's a waste of money then i bought the HKS mushroom open filter. How it I remove the cat and what kind of midpipe should i buy?
As you have commented on my thread about my engine. It's not really healthy. I you are me, what would you do to turn my engine back to normal?
Thanks a lot, Dann. Cheers

Ill explain the intake first.

The idea of a performance intake is to remove the restrictions the stock system has, and also to channel cold air into the engine. Think about what happens if youve ever put a baloon in the freezer. If you havent, what happens is the balloon halves in size. The baloon starts very large and full of room temperature air. When it goes from 30 degrees celcius to -4 degrees the air contracts, so the same amount of molecules take up half the space.
The engine is a set size, so we want the coldest air packed in there.
An open filter unsheilded from the 800 degree exhaust manifold obviously will only be able to suck in hot air. So youve removed the restriction, but now you're sucking very hot air.

As for the midpipe, you need a high flow cat, or just one designed for a bigger car like a falcon, with a pipe size around 2.25 inches.

What makes you think the engine isnt healthy?

Wow, that is a very clear explanation and you are right.
I thot the engine only need more air and never thot to go that far.
Will heat shield help the problem? What happen to mania CAI? I never seen one, but i know it looks like a trumpet.
At the moment, the previous owner have changed a genie extractor and Hi-tech muffler, but i can't recognize if the midpipe is standard or has been changed.
I am actually seeking for an affordable JASMA full system. So that i can feel more confident with the exhaust. What do you think?

It isn't healthy, probably because i think it idle isn't ryt (maybe just need adjustment) and it leaks (I think every seal is busted) and i can hear knocking in hard acceleration (only sometimes tho, maybe the timing?)

The knocking noise have been worst before, but after the oil change i can only hear them when i start the car or uphill hard acceleration.
If you ever experience that. Honestly, i really2 love the car. It's awesome! But i really wants to improve everything to normal state.
In my country i used to drive relatively new car, and i can pay anyone to do engine job or anything for very cheap money.
That is why i really never put my hands on a complex problem on an engine.
I'm actually considered as quite a DIY person in my country (Indonesia) cause i usually change my oil myself, spark plug, see the oil level, I can change coil spring myself, etc. Where everybody in my country is really rely on mechanics. Do you know how much is the labour to change coilover? it's 20bucks haha.. Any problem, just bring to a mechanic. Cause they don't change us hourly, in fact if we know them well, any 30 mins job, they can charge us for nothing. You can consider there is no installation fee for anything in Indo..
Unfortunately, I'm in Australia now. So... it's just a dream to do same thing as i did in Indo.

It's my birthday in two months time, i was going to spend about 1000 bucks or a bit more to improve the car i've been falling in love with.
If you can figure me stuff i have to do or change to improve the car to normal or even better.
Do you think i have to bring back my head for port and polish to my country? Cause they can do it for only 200bucks.
Any suggestion dann?

First things first.

The knocking sound. Does it sound like knocking as in someone knocking on a steel bench, or do you mean detonation, like a high pitched 'tinkling' sound, like a handful of gravel in a tin can?

The mania intake is a 'cowl style' intake. It takes the air from in front of the window. You move the windscreen wiper bottle, hole saw a hole in the firewall and the inlet has a pipe that goes through there.

As for your exhaust, if your patient Ill be building quite a few exhausts soon. Or you could look at something like the full mania system at $1380.

Today, i drove up towards MX5Mania to do service..
They check the engine and found out the engine is still running well..
So i don't need to replace the motor or doing any major service.

Basically, They found out that the main leak of my engine is from the CAS sensor and have the seal replace.
I have bought a PROTORQUE valve cover gasket, but it didn't fit, so it's not installed and mania have no stock of genuine ones.
They set my timing to 14 degrees since i'm running BP Ultimate 98, which i found out makes a lot of difference.
Change the oil and some logbook adjustments, ETC..

I have my window fix, new cables.
They check my drainage holes and they are all blocked haha..

Lots of small things i didn't mention, but it is really worth it..
Going home with a smile, and i can really tell the difference.
It's just feels solid now :) Cheers
