Re: Josh's Na6
Just get some semi-flexible epoxy. Wash the joins really, really, really well with meths or some decent alcohol (don't use acetone if the lip is polyurethane) and glue together. As long as you make sure that the epoxy you're using is roughly as flexible as the lip itself and not some ridiculously rigid grade, it should be an excellent join and hold up well. If you really wanted to make it durable, get some reinforcing mesh or similar and lay in on the back across the join to transfer some of the structural load and hold it together in case it does crack.
Depending on the level of damage to the lip, you should be able to make it look somewhere between reasonably professional and unnoticeable. Definitely an option if you find that plastic welding is expensive.

Re: Josh's Na6
The sun was out today So I figured I'd head to the garage and muck around.

... And then this happened

You can't really see it in the crappy phone pic but it is storming like a mental case!!!!!! Since I was stuck in the garage until the storm passed, I figured I'd take some photos of the smashed garage vary. pffft... and what do you know, the second I sprint through the rain to get inside.. the storm passes and everything dries up.. Just my freakin luck
Anyway! this is the said damage.

As you can see, the breaks are very clean. i'm holding it together with one hand there, but if you put two halves of any broken section together with both hands, they almost look like a solid piece again. I'll be getting quotes on plastic welding... When I can be bothered. I'm in no hurry to fix it just yet. I have more pressing matters like tyres to sort out!!
Oh and this is the STUPID shoddy immobiliser that caused me so much grief!!!

What should I do with it????
On a completely different note, I was helping Jace take out his soft top yesterday and ended up trial fitting his matte black hard top. Figured the matte finish would match my pillars... And my god it's almost a perfect match!!

It's sure as hell tempting to trade but I still have my heart set on gloss black so I think I'll just redo my a-pillar to match my gloss hard top.

Re: Josh's Na6
So Dad's been looking at getting an MX5 for a while and may be considering a series 1 NC. I don't think he'll be buying until mid next year or towards the end since he wants to travel etc.
After showing Dad pics of NC's and how cheap they are now.... I've started wondering if I should sell off my na and trade up to an NC myself
I still prefer my NA but I've dríven NC's in the past and love the feel and looks. Time will tell.

Nope.
And agree with Dannn, a bar of soap is a pretty large downgrade in the awesomeness department.

Re: Josh's Na6
After my hottie mate lost all the bolts that hold the tray under the engine bay on, It has been off the car for about 6 months. Today i decided to hunt around the garage for bits and pieces.
Long story short, it's back in place! Lesson learned, don't let mates work unsupervised on your car.....
Been eyeing the car off for a while now and thinking I might take another 15-20mm off the height and see how it goes.

Re: Josh's Na6
So something is wrong with the car. Getting a lot of tappet noise and thinking either lifters or injectors are playing up. Not sure. But after taking the car out tonight something doesn't feel right.
Engine is a feeling a little dodgy. Maybe it's age is finally catching up to it. Gonna pick up a can of Subaru upper engine cleaner tomorrow and give it a whirl. Hopefully it's just carbon deposits and crap in my engine. My initial thoughts were that there is crap in the oil channels in the lifters or something. I've read they're small in the b6 and often get chocked up so Mazda made a set with bigger passages to stop tappet noise.
In other news, I spent yesterday with my mate in his TSI Polo. Long story short: after driving my car again, I've realised it needs a LOT more throttle response low down. The miata's torque curve feels REALLY slow compared to the TSI. So I've been pricing up m62 sc kits online and thinking about heading down that route.

Do remember though that the Polo is quite a different car and the engine is around 20 years newer. It's also geared quite differently. Your's probably has more up top

Re: Josh's Na6
Bought a can of Subaru engine cleaner today and gave it a whirl. sadly it didn't fix the tappet sound, though a lot of black crap came out my exhaust.
After giving the car a drive before and after applying the engine cleaner, it has made a difference. Nothing grand or exciting but it does feel like the engine has a little less struggle under load and revs a tiny bit free-er now.
That said, I have to fix this lifter noise, the car is sounding shocking. It used to do this only on start up but now it's constant. Doesn't matter how long you run the car, STILL hear 'tappatappatappatappa' and I'm getting absolutely sick of it.
Any suggestions? I don't have the money for anything major like replacing lifters etc sadly. Will be taking it to my brother to look at in the next week or two I think.

Hi Josh,
Have you thought about flusing the engine? I have used ATF added to existing oil and then taken a quiet run before a oil and filter change.
Greg.

When you turn your car on, does it return the favour?

Re: Josh's Na6
Try a fresh oil change (Elf Competition GT 15W50 worked great in mine), and add a bottle of Nulon Lifter Free if it's still noisy. If that doesn't fix the noise than you need a mechanic to check it out.
