OK so far the nulon hasn't made a difference. I'm thinking about putting some ATF in there as well. Am I ok to put ATF in with the nulon as well?
If so, how much do I actually put in?

Dann,
You obviously wouldn't need to go on about new lifters if Josh had the confidence and tools to replace them.

Josh, drain 1L of oil and refill with ATF, 100Km's before the next oil change.

IF they are rooted, doesn't really change weather you can do them yourself or not....they're still going to have to come out to fix them.

Having said that...atf is not that expensive compared to a mechanics charge to swap them.

Not much of an update really, nothing new on the car.

Took it for a good thrash over the last couple of days and been having a lot of fun while the suns been shining. I've given up on the lifters, it's only a tappet sound and the car runs fine so I'll just live with it until I replace them. It's not that bad, just a bit annoying.

In other news, I just got a job. Should be starting in the next week (as soon as they mail me the uniform). I CAN NOT WAIT! I just want to start dumping money into the car. I recently wrote up a massive list of stuff for the car and budgeted it all. I know what I want and now I'll have an income to actually make the dreams reality :D things are on the up!!!

Oh and lastly, I've started building my mx5 models. Well, one of them anyway. It's slow progress since I need paint and still have to buy some sick wheels for it etc. But it's a fun little project. I'm new to modeling so any advice would be unreal.

So far it's blutacked together for trial fitment of the cage, home made front lip, side skirts and rough wheel fitment. it's going to be a LONG time before it's finished but I'm enjoying taking my time.

oh and in that first pic of the model, the cage isn't wonky at the back! The car only has wheels on one side so the perspective makes it look like the cage is weird

Ok so not a lot has changed lately. The motor is feeling a little worse for wear and I'm thinking I may be up for a new one in the not too distant future, or at least a rebuild.
The engine has lost torque and power feels like it's dropped by about 10%. Nothing engine related has changed though. I noticed the other day when putting the boot in on take off, the I can hear something metalic rattling. Sounds like a wonky pulley or something but on inspection... They look fine.
I'm gonna have to take it in somewhere and have it looked at properly.

In other news, I picked up a set of rims.
Image
Image

They are some no name 15x6.5 +35-40 Work Emotion Knock off wheel. I'm not sure who they are made by and don't really care lol.
So the story goes, my brother was cleaning his garage the other week and was throwing stuff out. I ended up getting a buzz from him asking if I wanted a set of wheels in his garage. Figured it was worth a look. I'd seen them on his girlfriends Pulsar before but always hated them. Buuuuuut I decided I'd do a trial fit to my car anyway.
Turns out they actually looked ok, better than stock anyway. sooooo, I kept 'em! This is roughly how my car sits now.

The problem is though, the tyres the wheels came with... The tyres in the photos are 185/55/15's. The ones actually fitted to the wheels now are 195/60/50!!!
At this point I should make it clear that I did not choose this size lol. These tyres were freebies to get me by until I get a job and to get me away from my old trashed suicide tyres I've been rolling on for the past 6 months. So this is an improvement.

However, I've really noticed the difference in handling with these tyres. For the worse! Before you go on about how I should be rolling on a 185/50/15 or something, once again may I remind you that these were free and if I had the option, the 185/50 would be my choice.
But woah, through corners I have way more grip than my old tyres.... but the loss of agility is a killer. I've lost a bit of confidence throwing it into corners and it's lost a little chuckability.
Right now, It feels like I can't come into a corner at a decent angle without worrying that the back is going to snap out without warning now.

So I'll be driving a little preventative now until I buy some new tyres.

Oh and in recent news, I now have a decent job so hopefully I can move on from these stop gap wheels and tyres and buy something I actually want!!!!

Did you ever consider the lack of power you have is caused by Fd lifters?

Yeah I actually did think that. Since the car feels like it's running empty on oil but on inspection it's sitting on full and clean. Should be able to afford a set of new lifters soonish or a new motor. I have to decide if it's worth rebuilding this one or buying a new one with less km's and a long nose.

Took the car out just now and man the handling feels off lol. Cannot wait to ditch the tyres and replace them with something good and right sized.

Decided to put some time into cleaning up the car and the wheels today and here is the result!

Crappy phone pictures really don't do it justice. All the chrome has been polished up to a mirror finish, waxed the hell out of the car to the point where you can see your face in it, cleaned the tyres back to a nice rubbery black (crappy grey before hand) etc etc...

Wheels will need a good degrease and clean again though. Planning on painting the wheels when I get new tyres so I'll be scrubbing the hell out of them in the next week.

Ok so I did a quick photo manipulation for my own benefit. I'll share it here to give myself some motivation to go through with it

Plan to get 185/50/15 tyres, paint the wheels flat bronze, fix the gv lip and put it back on, get more low and throw some spacers on the car to push the wheels out!!

NO SPACERS!!!!

Seriously, I've seen cars have wheels fly off because of spacers.

Looks fine as is dude, don't waste money on spacers n sh*t.

Just save for your ideal wheels (or my SSR's) and be happy with what it is in the mean time.
