Re: My era of MX5 ownership! Twilight Blue NB8A
Diff collected, I had a look at a few others and it seems the rearmost PPF Bolt doesn't have a spacer sleeve or anything.
So over the holidays I'm going to have a go at replacing the diff in the driveway.

I have a replacement PPF nut thanks to the wonderful guys at Allmaz.
And as one does...... I'm replacing the whole diff while I'm down there.
Thanks to Flycasta I've bought a 4.1 Type2 Torsen.
So, we'll be back, stronger and more fun than ever!!
Good ol' Flycasta, love my sports diff, and you will too!

Re: My era of MX5 ownership! Twilight Blue NB8A
Slow progress.
I decided to have a go myself.
All was going well.
Bracing removed
Exhaust removed
tailshaft detached
PPF bolts removed
PPF Splined nuts removed
Then came the Hub nuts on the half shafts.......
well, after soaking them in WD40, using big arse sockets and handles, and even heating them with a blow torch, they refuse to move even slightly.
I have a few more things to try (when I can be bothered)
if they don't work.... it's a tow truck to the workshop.
I did get one bonus though..... I got to start the car up with open headers....
bloody hell it's loud.
It made me decide that yes, I do VERY MUCH need that resonator box to stay in the midpipe.
Nothing planned for the short term, whatever mod comes next will be later in the year, and depends on what pops up at the right price.

Re: My era of MX5 ownership! Twilight Blue NB8A
A few more little things to add to the list:
I bought a pair of NB8B Cibie Foglamps, so need to make up some bracketry to mount them.
Then of course do some wiring so they work.
And I've got a Japanese Gauge cluster coming.
I've preferred them to the Audm ones, and this one popped up with about the same Km on it as my car.
So I had a bid placed, and got it for the opening price.
for reference:
Aust gauges:

Japanese Gauges:

Little things, redline is 500rpm higher (not that it matters, I'll still change as normal)
and it says 6speed, I might make up a small badge or something to cover that.

Will the different gauge calibration be fine with your Australian speedo sender etc? Just a plug and play kind of deal?

From what I've read it's all contained within the cluster.
Apparently they just plug straight into the Aussie ones.
Either way, I'll find out when it arrives

I think it may have been your thread that I read it in Regie?
After these mods will slow down again.
Let the bank build again, and also the fact that there aren't that many things left on the list to do.

Re: My era of MX5 ownership! Twilight Blue NB8A
FINALLY BOOKED INTO WORKSHOP!
Booked in for 13th March to finally have the diff fitted.
Going to attempt to re-install the stupid PPF bolts this weekend (Seriously, who the hell designed such a shitty system with all those spacers? just make it fit properly to start with!)
If I can't get the bolts back, no big deal, just means I tow it.
