So who decided the new north circuit would be a Wanneroo (Barbagallo) imitation?

After the supersprint on 12th/13th November, I took some photos of the construction works for the new South Circuit extension at Eastern Creek. It's coming along nicely! If we count the old turn 7 as "turn 1" on the new circuit, then there are a total of 13 turns.

This shows the old turn 7 in the foreground (turn 1 for the new track), and the new track twists up the hill. Turn 1 is a left, then turn 2 a right is not cut yet, then you can see the lefthand turn 3, and turn 4 right-hander crests the hill.

Viewed from next to turn 4. You've got the fast lefthand sweeper (turn 5) that goes downhill, to a tight hairpin (turn 6). The track then doubles back towards turn 4, with a drop in elevation of several metres. This'll be a great spot for photos!

After the lefthand hairpin (turn 6), there's a sharp right (turn 7) before the track climbs through turn 8 kink to the right, and rejoins the old track at Corporate Hill (old turn 8 )

The Supersprint presentation day on 26th February will be my first opportunity to sample the new south circuit. Looking forward to it! :mrgreen:

The North Circuit gets the infrastructure it seems. What arrangements are proposed for pits, control tower, garages etc for the South Circuit?

Bad news ... the MX-5 Club's Event Calendar has the following update:

12th May 2012 *** CANCELLATION OF CLUB TRACK DAY - at Eastern Creek (South)
Unfortunately development of the Eastern Creek South Circuit and its facilities has fallen behind schedule and the current expected opening date is now 1 July 2012. This means the cancellation of this Club Track Day. There are tentative plans to provide an alternative event. (This notification as at 1 Feb 2012)

Sad to hear, it would have been good to test out the new format. I was at EC a couple of weeks ago and TBH I'm not surprised the date has been pushed back as there seemed to be a fair bit of work still to do and I'm sure the continuous rain hasn't helped them.

Well according to club website the EC track day is out because of the EC South circuit being incomplete, due to all the wet weather we have had.

Our first run at the new south circuit may have been delayed by the wet weather, but we're getting closer to having a new track. NearMap has nice aerial photographs showing the progress of track construction at Eastern Creek for the new south circuit. The realignment of the old turn 7 is just about complete, and the junction at the old turn 8 is now laid. Looks like a fair bit of work has been done on the runoff areas.

No way, turn 7 was probably my favourite turn on any track I've dríven to date; so much fun to go in to!! But this new track does look like a bit of fun

At the CAMS Supersprint presentation evening on Saturday, I had a quick chat with Evan Jones from ARDC. Evan said that the final surfacing of the south circuit was due to be laid this week, weather depending. The new track is due to be available for use in June as part of the full circuit, and independent use of the South Circuit is due in August (including independent facilities). Unfortunately I didn't have time/daylight to look at the works while I was there.

Track Construction Update
11 April 2012
With the final base course of asphalt laid and safety walls with tyre barriers in place the South Circuit is back on track to meet its June completion date. The final race surface material will be laid in late April. This work will be followed by the construction of run off areas, the planting of trackside grass and the placement of flag points. It is hoped the new South Circuit section will be first used in conjunction with the existing full circuit at the NSW Motor Race Championships on June 9 & 10, 2012.
