Mack The Knife's Red NA6 "Annie"

Postby MackTheKnife » Thu Feb 09, 2012 11:36 am

Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time garage threader here.

I have had a large number of cars in my time including a lovely white Porsche 924 Turbo and a silver '89 NA6 called Alfie. My last car was a Mitsubishi Legnum VR4 which was a phenominally good car and blisteringly fast for something that looks like a hotted up Magna Wagon.

I just sold the Legnum & bought this:

The red isn't what it used to be when it was new and the engine needs a bit of attention (small oil leak from the rocker cover gasket), but I was sold on the wheels, an interior in exelent condition for a 22 year old car and the engine note through the aftermarket exhaust.

On the way home I dropped by MX5 Mania and picked up an offset numberplate bracket (JDM yo!), some Yellowspeed coilovers and an Ultra Racing Middle Underbody 4 Point Brace.

Once home I baselined it with an oil change and while I was under there I fitted the 4 Point Brace. The brace makes a huge difference, it definately corners flatter and I believe it was well worth the money.

I've ordered a BD Cams Certified Roll Bar and a Plastic Windowed Mohair Roof from Prestige Auto Trim in the UK. Coilovers go on this weekend.

Should be like new soon! (Apart from the paint)

Welcome Mr Knife. Great choice of MX-5 you have there! No bias at all. What are you plans for usage? If it involves trackwork, you should look at joining us for the MX-5 Club of NSW events at Wakefield Park and Eastern Creek South. 8)

Legnum! One of the most unfortunate model names ever. Sounds like the stuff one might scrape out from under one's toenails.

It'll definately see a racetrack at least once a year, but is a daily driver 150 kms a day 4 days a week.

The Legnum was intended to be a family car that had very occasional track duties (one). The child seats haven't been taken out of the wife's Freelander since she got it, so an all wheel drive twin turbo family wagon just doesn't make sense anymore.

I've looked into joining the MX5 Club and will do before either the 8/4 Natmeet trackday or 12/5 EC South trackday (depending on the time it takes to convince the wife).

I think the previous owner of that car used to be on this forum.

No idea what his name was, but the car is certainly familiar.

Car has come a long way since I bought it. Jobs done so far:
[*] Ultra Racing 4 Point Chassis Brace
[*] Cold Air Intake under the Windscreen made from Shielded K&N Conical FIlter, Silicone Intercooler Hose & a WRX MAF Sensor Adapter that was modified slightly using an angle grinder
[*] YSR Coilovers
[*] BD Roll Bar
[*] Thermostat gasket
[*] Mohair Soft Window Hood from Prestige Auto Trim in the UK

Car looks a bit like this now

Excuse the pic, it was done on a phone after an hour of spirited driving. The hands could have been steadier.
