Yeah, but they're old and English, they're supposed to be held together with bits of old cigar tins.

The MX5 is Japanese. It's supposed to be efficient and perfect!

Well, she's able to move again.

I managed to re-install the PPF bolts to the open diff.
SO at least she's driving, which saves me towing fees to the shop in a few weeks.

And I took her for a celebratory loop of the block........ with open headers.

Dear lord open headers sound sh*t. Sounds like a tractor.
Plus, has NO torque.

I could hear her at the top of the block - about 250m away over the suburban landscape :)

And she's off to the shop tonight.
She'll be sleeping at the workshop until Tuesday when the actual work will happen.

Of course, after I sneak it there without being seen (well.... heard)

Shop was full, so she's going in Tuesday Morning.

Good news about that is I was able to put the exhaust back on and tighten the PPF bolts properly.

Result = Drivable car!!!!!

The only issue is the exhaust has a leak, the old gaskets basically crumbled when I removed it (not too concerned, after it comes back I'll just get some new gaskets.

As well as that, my gauges are on the boat so should be here in about a month, and I've just painted a cam cover, so hopefully that comes out as I planned.

Dropped off this morning.

Should have her back tonight, then all that's left is for me to get underneath it again and just double check all the bolts are fully tightened (paranoia since last time the PPF bolt fell out)

Then she'll be up and running again.

The weekend's job:
Time to whip out the buffer and give the paint a good tidy up. (just need to clean the polishing pad.... it's all red from Pam's car)

edit:
And I should also get around to doing a quick service since it's about due.
I've got the stuff, just haven't had a chance to actually do it.
Oil + Filter, clean the air filter, replace the fuel filter.

Or I should just buy you a new pad. Consumerism at its finest.

Nah, no need to buy a new one.

We will clean it, it's designed to be washable anyway.

Torsen installed.

It's good.

The car has a lot more grip at the back now, no more inside wheel slipping.

Haven't dríven it hard yet, still getting used to it.

So, this morning there was a little rain.

The Torsen certainly has interesting characteristics.... it's going to take quite a bit of learning to get the most from it.

The main thing is that unlike the open diff, which woudl say "I'm starting to slip... gettign worse.... you're sideways now"
The Torsen just says "I'm holding..... holding...... BAM sideways"

It actually caught me out on a tram track, both wheels lit up and it threw the car sideways (luckily I was only going slowly)

It certainly puts the power down a LOT better now, it feels like there's bags more grip. Now it's just a matter of adjusting my driving to take advantage of it.

(worth noting, this is the first time I've dríven a car with an LSD. Apart from things like Hiluxes etc with manual locks)

How do you feel it compares to my torsen? Bearing in mind my bad accelerator pedal.

It's similar in that it's extremely difficult to get sideways, and grips extremely well.

It's hard to really compare since I drive your car differently to mine. (apart from motorkahanas)

Overall, it's quite similar. I think the differences are mainly due to the rest of the cars being different rather than the diff.
