Couple of Mx-5's in there.

Note that he knows the Mazda MX'5 model NA, NB, NC etc, and the BMW numbers, e30, e21 etc.

Well I had a pretty mixed day, I got to drive Andrews car for a change which was fun and challenging. It's incredible they're both NB mx5's but that they behave so incredibly different...our cars actually share a lot of parts as we upgraded our cars together without that many divergances (if one person tried something, went faster then both usually ended up with that mod :)). My car is easy to drive and if anything a bit more boring. His car is unpredictable, twitchy and exciting but so hard to extract %100 out of. I tried so hard to drive it like my car and adjust it's setup to mimic it...which was a mistake because it just plain didn't work. Plus what was a beautifully smooth balanced engine that was magic last month when I drove it right up to 8000rpm was plagued by dying coil packs which started off just causing hesitations after 7000rpm and eventually the car was going slower than my internally standard motor. Add to that only doing 3/6 sessions and I didn't go near as fast as I'd wanted.

I got to have a nice horrifying moment in Patricks car at Lunch too  . He took me round to show me the car, then at the start of the main straight we swapped seats and I figured the tyres were warmed up.... wow they weren't and I ran into another issue. Even with the seat as far back as I could push it I was a bit cramped. I gave it full throttle all the way down the straight thinking all would be fine.... as I turned for T1 I found I couldn't give it over 70 degrees steering lock before I jammed my hand against my knee, I switched to shuffling hands along the top of the wheel but late... made worse by going over 160kph and being far too far to the left side of the track doing my usual race line as well. So combined cold slicks, having to late brake as I shuffled my hands along the top of the steering wheel and being way too fast by the time the car was straight... I ended up going through the gravel trap  . Thankfully I drove it out without any harm but then spent a lap and a half wrestling with a car that hits boost HARD, required tip-toe braking and I couldn't turn it properly. That car is a massive hand-full...and I'm really annoyed with myself for not being more careful before I tried to drive it fast.

Still was good to be there at all, my car is horrible with the old slipping clutch so thanks Andrew for preventing me from missing my first clubday since I joined the NSW mx5 club 5 years ago. Plus thanks to all the officials for running another great day. Especialy Zan for putting up with all the shenanigans from me and Andrew trying to register for the event late . Jen fixing our forms as we were then late for the actual event and then Kevin for scrutineering us in our own pit garage right as group 1 was called up.

Fingers crossed my car will be back for the next clubday...hopefully a little bit faster

Great day with plenty of runs and thankfully the weather held off! Big thank you to all the organisers.

Very happy to get down to 1:13.89 after not doing a track day in 2 years. The bug has bitten though and will definitely be back for more!

BTW anyone know if brown Davis roll bar and sparco sprint seat on stock rails need to be engineered? Got defected on the way down to Goulburn :(

Oh that was you. I heard someone got pinged, but didn't know who it was.

In answer to your question, it depends on whether or not RTA/RMS consider them to be a "significant modification" (which is apparently not yet defined). Have a read of this:

On that note, has anyone in Sydney had a BD bar engineered? Any recommendations for engineers who would sign off on them?

Looks like I might have to dust of Mum's car and come down to the next one  !!

Chris.

That answers how the Rev was holding on to me when my miss stopped. I was thinking that I must be overdriving my car, as normally I can just pull a few cars on the Rev. He kept it quite, didn't say a thing. :D the old bugger. 8)

It won't be long before the 1.09's happen. If Mum's car is ready, bring it down.

Sounds like there might be of a competition in the NC ECU reflash business... This should be interesting, wonder if they can do mrsRacers Mazda3.

I wonder if that reflash is based upon the Moto-East version.
I'm very happy with mine in its initial conservative state with a reflash to happen when I get the data logs off to them for the finer, edgier custom tune.

For sure Lou. The Mazda 3 ones are available across the range for all engine sizes and includes the MPS. Give me a yell to book the car in and we'll flash your Mrs  (car that is......)

They would be very similar. MX5 Mania and ourselves, with both circuit racing and Targa successes, have given it the extra tweak to suit our Australian conditions.

I see that Tiit has posted pics from the Sunday Supersprint event on his site. There were photographers at Wakie on the Monday. Was that him as well or are there photos somewhere else?

Tiit was not at the track on Monday. I'm keen to see any photos from Monday as I'll need some for Club Torque. Anyone?

Not sure if it's State requirement or National but when I got my CAMS approved MX5 Plus rollbar fitted, a 'vehicle modification' plate had to be fixed. Further, in Queensland the car was NOT to leave the fitment location until foam was placed on ALL forward facing aspects of the rollbar

As such, should I have chosen to remove it, the installers [MX5 Plus] have photographic evidence that it was fitted upon installation

Can't see in the dark tonight if the plate is 'State' or 'National'

Mate, just been looking through some RTA or whatever they are called and found this so called technical area contact details.

RTA Technical Enquiries PO Box 1120 PARRAMATTA NSW 2124
www.rta.nsw.gov.au Email: tech-enq@rta.nsw.gov.au
Tel: 1300 137 302 Fax: (02) 9843 3821

This is all I have found.

Seats
Owners should ensure that the seat and its anchorages comply with any applicable ADR requirements (possibly by certification from the seat manufacturer or by an engineering signatory) and the appropriate seat belts are fitted to all seating positions.
Vehicle Standards Bulletin No. 5 issued by DOTARS covers requirements for the manufacture of additional seats.

However that standard bulletin only talks about additional seats.

So maybe contact Sparco to see what they say, as I'm sure they would want to defend their product.
I am pretty sure if you use standard rails, that keeps you compliant with ADR's there, same for the seat belt. Just get Sparco to confirm that the Sprint V is ADR compliant.
I think you will be out of luck though as I am sure they are FIA approved but not ADR approved which is a bit of a joke considering some of the crap seats out there that are ADR approved. However the older sprint was ADR approved and V is pretty much the same which leaves question marks.
http://www.mx5cartalk.com/forum/viewtop ... 28&t=35664

From my understanding you need an engineering cert, regardless whether a seat is ADR approved or not, so any seat change is deflectable without a certificate anyway.

As for the roll bar, I can't find anything other than things on forums that you do need a certificate for a roll bar, but not a style bar.
What defines roll and style however is debatable.
Does MX-5 Mania do Eng Certs for Bars anyone?

Personally I would just remove the Seat and put the standard one back, same for the Bar, and put them back in after the inspection.
