Hi All,

I'm the owner of the red NA6 running Webers. I've committed to doing the race on Sunday and should see you all then. Come and say hello if you can spare the time. I should be easy to recognise, I'll be standing around with a stupid look on my face wondering what's next (deer and headlamp comes to mind).

For those interested, I drove the car yesterday for the first time after getting the crank keyway fixed. It was my first drive in an Mx5 so I'm happy with the way the car handles but the Webers are not much to speak about. They cough and splutter and in the slowest corner at WP it seems to run out of fuel even though there is plenty in the tank. Gearbox is on its way out, a bit crunchy. Nothing some money can't fix but have spent too much already.

So there are my excuses (for coming last), hopefully things will improve in the not to distant future.

Cheers - John

Good to meet you guys out there today, didn't get to pick your brains as much as I would have liked, but good to put names to faces and all that!
Great to see such good racing between all concerned, the only thing missing was some temperature! Geez it was cold.
Good efforts 5ers!
So lets go!

......aaaaand im at work, post racing blues :(

awesome day sunday, I only did MX5 challenge and not super TT as we had 11 in our field, turned out to be a great field apart from one entrant who shouldnt be in our class - silly Pug!

weather was a mixed bag, rain, sun wind cold sun wind rain rain rain wind sun cold cold cold - im sure snow was around somewhere!!!!

qualifying I did a PB to begin with, with a 1.13.4 in cold slippery conditions - I thought Id be lucky to pull off a high 14 in those conditions!
managed to pull off a 360 spin at turn 2 also haha as it started to rain a little bit during qualifying.

qual'd 6 out of 11 which wasnt too bad!

had a good start, but turn 2 was a bit dicey, lost a spot and held a few others, come around lap 2 this pug decides that he wants to take me at the kink, he is almost off on grass trying to pass me, no room what so ever, understeers towards me closer and closer, I take action and swerve left, only to go well off the track into the mud, 4-5 cars go past me. FU pug. I think he hit Matt in the white NA and had similar issues with Col.

I had a chat to the stewards after who saw the thing and agreed he shouldnt have done that and to tone it back a bit.

so started in 8th race 2 after issues in race 1.
rained for the first couple laps. I have a spin and end up last place! all my own fault. coldish tyres, damp/slipery track and getting on gas too early!

so i decide I need to drive hard or GTFO and go home.
caught a few others, overtook 3 and started realing in Col and Geoff. 1 more lap I would have caught Col - turns out my lap time was 2 tenths slower than Col and I did a PB of .1.12.8!

epic!
race 3 was wetter and the warm up Lap Matt and I had our own drift comp which he won! I managed a 1.17 something but had fun with some of the bigger horse power cars and ended up 4th in the tophey race as one bloke had a 5 seciond penalty applied.
yay for me1

all in all good weekend, car went the best ever and met some new faces such as Scotty, John, Matt and of course the regulers was good to catch up with Jeff, Col, Greg, Nick etc

Cheers!

A quick race report to supplement evil!

The MX5 Mania Motorsport Mazda never missed a beat, no more spinning the inside wheel in the fish hook and no more wallowing around like a drunken camel!

There was a Peugeot 206 Gti that was in with us, research revealed that this car belonged to a Super TT driver however her partner was driving. He normally competes in Super TT with a Subaru but it was broken. To allow double entry WP had shoved him in with us.

In qualifying, the Poogeot was holding me up and, by the time I worked out that backing off to get some clear air would be a good idea, the heavens opened up!

Managed to get a better time than him anyway and qualified in 8th. As the car was going OK but my time was slow, I suggested to the missus that the car was good enough to sell and maybe we should just put it on the trailer and head home as we were both freezing. The temp never got above 4 degrees all day. The last few outings to WP have seen something break or the car not handling and me losing the will to live...

She who must be obeyed convinced me to stay for the first race at the very least and I'm glad I did! I ended up having a great dice with the Poogeot and beat him to the line for 5th place! I thought we were going to swap paint on a few occasions but we managed to avoid any touching but there was only millimetres in it!!

Race 2 saw a great dice with Jeff in the ex-Metho 88 car. Jeff was faster down the straight but I was on his tail from turn 2 all the way to turn 10. I managed to get past a couple of times but he would just overtake me on the straight… (mental note - need more power!!)

Race 3 saw the rain come down on the dummy grid and around on the warm up lap. There had been a few issues during the day and the trophy races were shortened to 7 laps. I got a great start from 6th place on the grid and managed to get up to 4th by the top of the hill, on the way down to the fish hook Scott got a bit wobbly and I managed to get to 3rd behind the Poogeot! I dived into the fish hook and grabbed 2nd in the hope of blasting past on the inside as the Poogeot had started to slide sideways towards the outer part of the track. 2nd gear wasn't a great idea because as soon as I hit the gas pedal, the car looped and half sunk into the pond that has developed on the inside of the fish hook.

As I hit the water, a bow wave came over the front of the car but I managed to keep it going slowly and got back onto some tarmac but water must've gotten the electrics wet as we spluttered our way back to the pits and onto the trailer. That pond was so deep the water was coming in through gaps in the floor!!

When looking at the car sitting forlornly waiting for her transport home, she had grass and weeds all over her with stuff hanging from the undercarriage which made her look like the Flying Dutchman from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise… Maybe I should change my name to Davy Jones arghhh me hearties!!

Probably the best Wakefield weekend since I had the NA, now I can't wait to get back on the track again!

I'm also suffering from post race blues. Can't wait to get out there again. I'm happy to see the racing was on the most part clean (I'm sure Chris won't agree) which makes for a good weekend. Don't know what it's like further up the field but that something I won't have to worry about.

November seems such a long way away. Apart from the State Championships in 2 weeks time is there any other racing to be had?

Hi John,

There is a FOSC meeting at the new EC south circuit at the end of September. I'm aiming for that after the meeting in 2 weeks time. You can always do supersprints to get some seat time. Not as good as racing but very close to qualifying!!

Hi Colster3,

Would the race you mentioned require a different licence to the AASA licence? I've only got the AASA licence.
