Re: My era of MX5 ownership! Twilight Blue NB8A
It is a nice little area, great wines and nice roads.
On the car front, I bought some gasket goo to fix the leaky exhaust.
Unfortunately I didn't use enough to seal the join between the headers and teh cat, so there's still a small leak, but it's only about 1/4 what it was.
Prior to the gasket goo it was a matter of every time the car came to a stop, both windows down, fan on full fresh air. (Otherwise it filled with fumes!)
Now with the goo, the leak is small enough that the fumes don't fill the car.

Re: My era of MX5 ownership! Twilight Blue NB8A
So, because it's been an exciting weekend of me in bed sick
I decided to do something easy that I've been meaning to get around to.
I finally cleaned up the floormats I got from Pam for christmas and put them in the car.
(ignore the stupid attachments, my imageshack is full
)
(also ignore the shithouse photos, the car's filthy and the proper camera's battery is flat)

Jap gauge cluster installed.
Direct plugin, the only issues are:
it says 6 speed (meh)
Odometer is now 10,000km more than before.
The dimmer doesn't work on Jap clusters
Will resize pics when I can be flocked.

I'm not the best with electronics.
Plus, the new one was close enough.

You don't need any electronic skills, if I remember you munscrew, pull out and put original one in.

Re: My era of MX5 ownership! Twilight Blue NB8A
Been ages since an update.
SO now I'll annoy everybody by updating without pictures
New things:
Wheels - genuine Axis OG Old School
Dwell reducer - happily sitting on a shelf
Painted cam cover - happily sitting on the garage couch
Things to do:
Pick up second pair of wheels
Buy hub rings for wheels
put tyres on wheels
fit them to the car
optional: swear and yell loudly if I need to roll the guards.
put on the cam cover
buy the other bits and bobs needed to go coil on plug (to stop my incessant misfires)
Remove OBX driver's seat
replace with Mazdaspeed B-Spec seat. (until I decide on, and buy, a better bucket)
fix VW Tiguan imprint on front bar
Service it
Wash it
think about painting the hardtop but not actually doing it.

If you ever need someone to help you think about painting the hard top and not actually do it, give me a buzz and we can sit on the couch discussing how we're motivated but not enough to actually do anything.

Time for some pitchers!

And for the grammatically gifted, some pictures: (apologies, camera phone)

Wheels are only test fitted, the tyres on them are well and truely past it. (ie: great sections of delaminated tread)

Re: My era of MX5 ownership! Twilight Blue NB8A
Car went on the dyno today.
Last time:
RE Customs - Dyno Dynamics - 79kw - Stock just the exhaust
Today:
Road Track Rally - Mainline Dynolog - 76kw - Intake and exhaust
So yeah, worth noting that the RTR dyno is a more pessimistic dyno than the RE one, Pam's car was similarly down from teh RE dyno as well.

Re: My era of MX5 ownership! Twilight Blue NB8A
Today's change.
New driver's seat.
The OBX bucket that was in there before was fine, but not amazing.
It turns out that Pam found the Mazdaspeed Bspec buckets she recently bought to be rather uncomfortable, so we did a sort of swap.
I've now got one of the Mazdaspeed seats.
I've now got more headroom, more padding, and a better driving position.
