After a few hundred kilometers we stopped off for a break and we couldnt have timed it worse lol :P Two minutes after we pulled in i decided to put my lights up, thats when this cop came in.

Image

Shortly after a Department of Transport car rolled in as well haha. We waited for him to start filling up and drove off on our merry way. The sun went down and i started to feel my car like it wasnt boosting properly :( Didnt take much notice and just kept driving. About an hour later we stopped off on the 'private road' to do some skids :P It was after doing that i knew my car wasnt right.. Having no boost getting onto the highway i pulled off a couple of kilometers down the road.

Image

Trying to diagnose to see what the problem was. Until one of the boys noticed this:
Image

Danger to manifold

For the next 6 hours the car was noisy, uncomfortable, cold, smelly and not much fun to drive lol. We stopped off for dinner, fuel and the crack along the way and came to the last stop. This was about 2 hours from the gold coast and its where we all parted ways.. Wanting to get home asap i headed off first with the Getz.. About 5 minutes later a cop on the opposite side of the road drove by. I watched him disappear untill a couple of minutes later a pair of headlights was coming up from behind fast. I tried to put a few cars in between him and me but unfortunately he ended up behind me a couple of km's down the road. The road merged into two lanes so i moved across (Right hand rear indicator bulb blew on the way down) and two seconds later the lights came on :(

Image

He proceeded to go through my car and defect me for the following items.
Image

At this point my turbo had fallen off the manifold, i was tired, and i just wanted to get home.

Final stop for fuel and we were back in Queensland.

1.5 hours later (3.45am) i was home :D ƒü¢k yeahhh. Time for sleep.

Next day i washed the car and took it to a Automotive Plus to access the manifold and make plans :)

Image

This is the aftermath :P
Image

So thats the trip.. Even though it was long, and i was tired.... Its gotta be the most fun ive had in a long time :D. Big shout out to the Streetkarnage boys, Downshift and The Lowdown for organizing the event :)

I'm interested in what your plans are for the defect notice and the emision control test requirements?

How did the cop figure out you were in breach of emissions? Did he know the stock ecu was missing? MAF or similar? I'm guessing he just felt the intake wasn't stock and so assumed it needed emissions testing? Yeah?

I imagine id had something to do with the fact that the manifold wasnt connected to the exhaust. at all.

Well im pretty sure he just looked at the car and assumed a lot of things.. theres no way he could have been able to tell my car was too loud.. the way i was driving it was barely any throttle. With emissions its just a case of looking at the bay, not seeing a charcoal canister, seeing exposed filters.. Its no wonder he wrote that down..

But... The kicker is, and the cop actually told me this... I dont have to worry about clearing any of these defects now that im in queensland.. If i want to go to NSW and get pulled over id get reemed for not getting them cleared. I dont plan to go to nsw again lol :P so im cool with that :NA6:

sounds like you had an eventful trip you won't forget in a hurry.

hope you can sort out the manifold. but from someone who has had this happen i would think it is going to be a new manifold though i hope its an easy fix.

i think if you were to tell someone who does not share the same passion about your trip they would wonder why you bother. however i think its trips like that that sort of make it all worth while in a funny way.

hope you can get it back on the track soon enough to have some fun.

Charlie, you might want to look into this. I've heard that NSW Police eventually hand fines not addressed over to the QLD Police for resolution/follow up. Don't really know the details, but I have a friend who is in the force who would know - I won't enquire unless you want me to do, but don't just assume fines in another state just go unresolved. Your call regarding what to do.... Sux though!

Charlie, the black meisters look great. If you want another set of caps for them pm me your address again and I will send you up a set.
I have a few sets left and have sent a few OS thanks mainly to you. No charge of course, better to be looking at them on your car than sitting in a box under my desk.

Richard.

i was never actually fined.. just defected. It doesnt really bother me.. If a cop pulls me over he will defect me regardless of whether theres an outstanding defect in another state.

When that happens ill just take it off the road.

I love how this photo is framed, with the cop in the background and your car kind of hiding and winking.

Hey Charlie, send them back to me I will re-machine the critical sizes and send them back. You won't see the machining as it is all hidden but the black cap will stick out and look flush. Fountainline 3 Production Ave kogarah 2217

Who are those clowns driving!

I think it was inevitable that your car would come under police scrutiny.
