Dude the point is that some people dont want to be at the club runs.

I might go into why but you may find yourself offended.

My apologies for the very late reply, I wanted too set this up as a run not necessarily after tea and biscuit stops, somthing more so the younger generation can enjoy, as now it seems there are alot more younger drivers specially in there P's now owning MX5's. I also can't justify giving money to a membership as part of a club....it's like giving money to the cgurch, I believe in god just like I love my MX5, certainly not gonna pay money for my own enjoyment.

I want to set the run up with possibly cars from other areas joining aswell, almost a combined group run, I have been working on my car at the moment and is out of action until I get wheels and suspension bracing set-up.

MX5Cartalk.com never organises or endorses any car runs/cruises, if members wish to get together for a drive that's up to them, I can't accept any liability or responsibility.

I hope that members promote safe driving, follow all road rules and be courteous to other drivers.

If you want to drive faster than a speed limit, take it to the track.

MX5Cartalk.com supports and promotes the MX5 Clubs of Australia, don't get upset because someone has invited you to an event as a guest.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Come off it!

The dude said he wants some blokes his age to come along for a spirited run in the mountains without extended tea and biscuit breaks. This type of run happens to be aimed at non members, because if you wanted the tea and scone type of run you would have joined the club!

get over it.

Don't make a storm in a tea (and scone) cup.

Every thread doesn't need to turn into a flame war.

he was the second old timer who came on and tried to derail the thread and plug something opposite.

Anyways, delete all my posts here, I would if I could do it myself.

I wanted a group of drivers similar too the ones that go on the last friday of the month Nebo Runs, so that if anyone missed out due to work and other commitments, there was at least a change of pace or another drive they could look forward too.

In no absolute way I'am promoting reckless driving either, I've been on 1 mx5carclub drive, and it will be my last. I did not like the feeling that I "Had" to own the latest NC Mx5, the club is more of a Colt or a church than what I see as a club, to me you don't have too pay money to a head organiser just to say "Oh hay I love mx5's too"

Thankyou "NitroDan" for understanding my points of view aswell, Looks like I'll need a flame suit on for this one.....

Sorry if this is a long winded post but I didn't want you to get the wrong impression from my post.

I got no problem with you guys catching up with each other etc. I just needed to make sure i've jammed my disclaimer in there as it only takes one idiot showing up and giving us all a bad rep.

A few years ago now both Matty and I were fairly young MX-5 club presidents, my experience is that MX-5 clubs WANT younger members to contribute but you might find the younger members tend to only attend motorsport or special events. I hope the club committees would value your input.

There's 2 ways to stop feeling out of place, 1) get to know the people there, chances are most are young at heart and have years of car knowledge to share and 2) encourage more younger drivers to attend events.

We have foundation members in our club who have a wealth of motorsport experience and I feel their comments and tuition is worth our club membership price alone, if I had dismissed them because they were older than myself i'd really be missing out. You can learn more from listening than talking.

Perhaps you guys could organise your cruise to show up at the club event to meet a few people then go off and do your own thing if you feel out of place, it would be good for the club to see enthusiasts who are keen to drive their MX-5s but don't want the tea and scones stigma.

I'd hate to think any MX-5 club was snobby towards older cars or imported NAs etc. that kind of feedback really upsets me. I do worry the clubs started with members who could afford brand new cars and some may want to keep their richer clique but lets face it, they're not Porsches so the chip on their shoulder is misplaced.

Last time I was the president of the MX5 Club of Western Australia I had the cheapest, most beaten up Eunos in the club, no one seemed to care.

I can see where you're coming from, I quit the Triumph car club of W.A. because it seemed that most of them spent their retirement polishing their cars rather than driving them and spent more time criticising cars that were non concourse rather than simple encouraging members to enjoy their cars. Perhaps my experience is why i'm opinionated about making sure the MX-5 clubs don't end up the same way.

It doesn't help encourage younger members when photos from Natmeet show people in fancy dress looking like a bingo bus tour, the clubs need to look at how they present themselves (WA club included) and look to the future. I feel they have a responsibility to encourage younger members and help provide them with driver training and access to motorsport venues.

Rather than create an us and them attitude you need to get involved in the club events that suit you and where possible organise club events that you feel enthusiasts like yourself would attend.

The clubs aren't going to be everything to everyone one, although i'm a life member of the MX5 Club of W.A. I also get involved in AFARCC and other car clubs.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Very well said Okibi. May I add that any perception of car model "snobbery" with respect to the Qld club is certainly misplaced - we're all enthusiasts and age is no barrier. It is quite frustrating (and hurtful) when people are dismissed out of hand after passing any age milestone (40, 50, 60, 70 etc.). It's also surprising how many cars owned by our "over 40s" members are highly modified.

Trying not to make this another 'why arent you a member' thread, Ill add that at the only and last club run I did there were many older members in highly modified cars and they were the most snobbish towards me. The issue isnt an age barrier, the average age of my good friends is about 50, Im 22. Their experience and knowledge is half the attraction as a friend.

Also, and im sure this comment will be deleted, but the run I was on, it was by far the older members doing illegal and really dangerous stupid things. Every NC I saw in the twisties got right over the wrong side of the road totally in the other lane through the blind bends and quite a few other cars following them.

Competition is healthy, and forum members shouldnt try to cockblock other members from organising a drive.

Also what Dave said is incredibly spot on.

Look at natmeet, who in their right mind under 30 would save that sort of money to go play dress ups at a fancy dinner at the war memorial?

The club needs to organise cruises to JDMST meets and things like that, but they see that as promoting the competition.

Its not my fault many arent members look at the attitudes of some of the members in this thread.

Thanks,
NitroDann
