You'll be fine if you bring that receipt.

Plastic film covers are only required for GLASS headlights. NBs and NCs have plastic headlight covers and do not require a plastic film to cover them. This rule applies to NAs with their pop-up lights.

The simplest solution is to apply a couple strips of gaffer tape in an "X" over each glass headlight. A more practical solution is to cut a pair of circles ~150mm diameter from clear Contact film and stick them onto the glass headlights. I use the latter and just leave the Contact film on the headlights all the time - one less thing to worry about when preparing for each track day. Since the headlights are usually "down", they get very little UV exposure and so the vinyl film survives OK.

BTW, I've never seen this rule enforced at Eastern Creek and the only time it's ever been checked on my car was at Phillip Island for an Interstate Challenge.

Great track, very fun, S'pense and Black Penguin you will have a load of fun. Lots of places to get loose, it is pretty demanding, S's, off camber tightening corner. And the hairpin followed by another tight 2nd gear'er, could not nail that one (someone give me an LSD!)

Posted the CAMS application today. Think I'll wait for the approval before paying the entry fee, but I'm totally down for this. Looking forward to a chance to learn more about driving my car :D

I'm trying to register for this now. Although I'm waiting for my CAMS license first. I just had a few questions.. On the registration form it asks 'Dual entered with" I'm unsure what they are asking.. This is my first time entering for a track day so I feel a bit stupid asking... Also I'm unsure what class my car would be.. Mx5 NA slightly modified. I may go with class 4 as the organisers can reclassify if need be.
I also read in the regulations that the bonnet must have a secondary method of being secure. Does the NA already have a second method? Also with the firm.. if the headlights are always down in the NA do they really need the firm? Probably be better to be safe then sorry..

Much appreciated, Andy.

Dual entered is when you're entering two drivers in the one car. So for one driver you don't worry about dual entry.
If your car is modified you enter in the modified class.
For NA headlights just put a cross of race tape across the headlights and you pass.
Next, have fun. I know you will. :D

Hi Andy. The stock double bonnet fastenings on your NA6 is all you need to satisfy that reg. If you have no more than four modifications on your NA6 AND you're using regular street tyres (not R specs), then you're eligible to enter class 4. Otherwise you're in class 5. If you look at the results from the previous round you might consider entering class 5 even if you're eligible for class 4, as there is less competition in there than class 4. See page 11 of the Victorian rules for details on what's allowed in class 4 (we adopted this class from them).

With the headlights, Phil is correct. I use clear contact film on mine and just leave it there all the time. But a cross of gaffer tape is OK too. If its raining, you'll need to use your lights.

I also recommend you register NOW and write "pending" for your CAMS L2S. That will be accepted. If you delay your entry too long you're likely to miss out on the early bird discount for members (early bird closes 12th October), or you might miss out completely if it's oversubscribed.

Cams application sent
Track registration sent

Just need to get clear contact film.. I'll just go to office works and get some from there.
Another question I had, I attached the fire extinguisher to the roll bar with 4 zip ties.. I'm unsure if this is satisfactory or not.. It doesn't move and the weight keeps it down.. What do you guys think?

I am quite keen for this.. I got a camera set up on my roll bar to record it all.. I just want to have fun on the track without worrying about the fuzz lol.

Yep I'm doing the trackday on Saturday and the supersprint on Sunday.

Zip ties for the fire extinguisher are unlikely to be accepted by the scrutineers. If you're attaching to the rollbar, I use a pair of steel hose-clamps and have never had a concern from scrutineers. Fit it to the lower part of the rollbar diagonal, behind the passenger seat.

I got my CAMS L2S License in the mail :)

This I missed reading the fine print. I don't understand what is meant by a secondary method, given the advice to Amx5 that a stock NA will have this covered... When I read that I was thinking it meant I needed those external clips/straps you see on rally cars... I actually don't want to change my car at all, will I be able to come to this with a stock NB? All I was going to do was attach a fire extinguisher and put that battery sticker on. Speaking of which, will we need to gaffer tape numbers to the sides of our cars as I've seen in a few shots of previous runs on this track? Or was that an actual race...? Wouldn't this damage paint

Edit: Referred to Schedule B Article 1 in the CAMS Manual of Motor Sport as fine print advised, the last bit is I suppose the crux of it:

"In a speed event, road registered series production car fitted with an unmodified original equipment two-stage fastening system shall be exempt from these requirements"

So yeah, I'm assuming that if an NA has this, the NB8A would too right? I would really hate to pay all the fees and find out I couldn't drive...

The club provides magnetic door numbers for all competitors, on loan for free. They have a limited range (1 to 80 I think) and unless you nominate a special number that is not available, you won't need to organize your own numbers.

The standard unmodified bonnet latches on ALL road registered MX-5s will meet the requirements for our club track days. There is no need to add an extra bonnet fixing ... although some like to do it for added insurance (people have been known to forget to latch their bonnet!).
