I was running around 2 seconds off atleast. However, there was reasons why I was slower outside of temperature conditions.

didn't want to beat Barge :P

Hayden's slower times probably had something to do with tyres that were almost down to the canvas!

In my standard NA6 I finished with a best lap of 1:16.37 which is 0.57s slower than my PB. Was consistently losing time on the long straights despite having good exit speed from the corners. My car was clearly lacking a little power in yesterday's hot & humid conditions.

I had a very close call in turn 2 on the last run. I was following Gus's NB and he lost control exiting the turn. I saw it coming but was already mid-slide and had to pull it up quickly to avoid a nasty collision. It all worked out safely in the end. 8)

Same at Lakeside last Monday, quite a few said they felt it was fast but the times said otherwise .. I was nowhere near my 'normal' speed down the main straight although corners felt fine. KU36's were quite hot [no readings] after each run but I did manage to get within 0.05secs of my PB. Must also say I started with a fairly heavy fuel load for a standard NB so next time I'm making 'other arrangements'

Just as well it's NOT today, terrible here this morning with the heat and humidity, so hopeful of a storm later in the day

Glad you 'southerners' had a great day, I was watching the radar closely!!

Extra horsepower was reduced....Barge quicker with less...

The heat was definitely stealing some precious speed on the straights and overall my car felt very 'oversteery'. I drove a little over the limit in my attempt to set some fast laptimes. At the end I managed to match my PB but not to improve it.

Bryan, I was hoping you had that close call on video! I saw you coming sideways while I was still sliding off the track, so I tried to move out of the way as quick as possible. It was a big relief when I saw you driving past me. Great driving!

I'll try and give a simple explanation.

My car makes 125rwkw @ 6psi. New turbo is a 5psi wastegate and makes about 120rwkw.

As an example of an NC modified, Charlie Browns NC makes 112rwkw naturally aspirated.

Weight on the NC may be a tad more but not much.

Straight line, behind Ralf I was equal if not losing ground. His corner speed would effect the early part but once we got going it was slower. Previously I was able to overtake NCs in a straight line.

Humidity was high, tyres were on the canvas (2), etc. But I think I drove terrible and only ran 4 times all day.

I had fun and late Jan ill get my revenge!

Yep I was losing heaps of Power in my SE as well. Ws 1.01s off my best.
Was behind Russell for my runs. I would be quicker than him down the straight on the first lap, then from there the power just went away, and he left me for dead. In the 3 sessions I did, always the first lap was quickest, when the tyres were not at the optimum!!! That’s how bad the power loss was for us Turbo cars.
I had the OBD scanner on as well. After going down the straight on lap 1, coolant would get up to 107C, which as I found is the highest Torque, with my Bluetooth adaptor can display!!! Who knows how hot the thing was really running. Never saw that in all the cool months I did the Supersprints in, think the highest I saw before was 104C, and just briefly.
I also faded my pads for the first time since going to race pads. Just got the DBA 4000's machined due to vibrations, and put my half worn Carbotech XP10's on.
I say Pads, because I mean the pedal went rock hard, not mushy, as you get with Boiling fluid. Only other time I did this, was the first time at Wakefield on the standard factory pads back 2 Decembers ago.
So now my discs and pads are all glazed!!!

Then I changed to Dads NC, first run was interesting, still driving in group 1 with a stock car :).
Only managed a 1'15, with the old shagged tyres.
Did the 2nd run , this time moved to group 2, and there was no timing!!! I know I did better but o well.
Had the scanner on his car and wow I don't think I saw the Coolant go above 93c in his car(I can't see the screen in his car, so just checked after the last timing marker at the fishhook at the end of the sessions, my SE was still 107c + at this point).
Had no Power loss in his car at all. Just random grip. And also with the factory pads, no brake fade, and I can brake much later in his car. NC brakes are just so awesome compared to NB8B brakes.

Sadly, no video. Really peeved at myself too - I forgot to delete the old videos on the memory card before starting the day. You can see from this screenshot how close it was before before I had to get out of it. Was doing 88km/hr at that moment.

That was Zane Al-Said. He's been a member of the club since 1999 and a very experienced racer. Search youtube for some of his Formula V race videos.

Britney felt like she was on roller skates most of the day. In the heat I found if I did minimal tyre warming I got one reasonable lap then the tyres (R888s) went to mush and brakes overheated.

I had replaced the stock headers with a 2nd hand set of extractors, but I don't think the small power increase explained the lurid power slides from the mighty 1600, which is not a common experience, but worst it had no progression, it just lost grip randomly at front or rear, so kept me on my toes - it may as well have been wet. I had to put in some 2nd hand pads at lunchtime as the old ones were gone - the 1600 brakes must need some ducting to survive that sort of heat.

When it cooled a little for the last run I managed to get down to a 1.14.5 (0.1 off my pb) so was content, and had heaps of fun sliding her around.

Thanks to all the officials for standing around in the overheated conditions.

Thanks to whoever found and handed in my 949 racing wheel cap. Unfortunately it was without the trim ring so can't put it back on. It was probably loosened when either Alex or I had an off then fell out somewhere. Maybe it was picked up on the track walk. Didn't have the best of days. I turned in too late on T3 several times and ended up having a big lose and skated off across the grass. Stupid. Alex went off on T2 and got gravel jammed between the rim and tyre on rear o/s which required some assistance to fix. Thanks go to Bernie, a great help. This meant I had to join in the back of Group 6 as I missed my scheduled run. It was fun overtaking with people very courteous in this group. Alex pushes hard and when I jumped in after him I found the tyres pretty hot and slippery. Sharing a car has some challenges. Definitely need a race seat and a harness.

Snuck in with a PB on the last lap of the day again! Pretty happy to take 1.5s off my best from last time (my first at Wakefield) and may lap timer says there's another 2s there if I can put my best sectors together on a single lap!

Bring on January.

Wow some quick times in there, notwithstanding it was a tough day. Simon Kendrick, a 1.07.

What's the story with Ralph, has he changed (dropped rego / bunged in turbo) or did he get bumped a class for being too quick?

Nah, Class 9 is our normal class now. Ralph (NC), Steve (NB) and myself (NC) were bumped out of our respective road class at the start of the current season and put into the non road registered race class as our times were close to track cars and it help boost numbers in Class 9, though all of a sudden we now have turbo cars (Patrick) to contend with.

As for what changed? I guess you mean being beaten? Pressure after the first run of the day. :P
We both dealt with Patrick. Turbos just don't perform in the heat no matter how high you turn the wick up.

Howdy nbse2,

Great day at Wakefield last Sunday. It's been 9 years since I attended a club day and although I thought they were well run back then I must say that the standard is now absolutely amazing. Well done Mike Hicks, Zan and their dedicated team.

I was also surprised by the times most people where able to achieve. Anyone with a sub 1:20 in a naturally aspirated road registered 4 cylinder is the envy of every other part-time track warrior - GUARANTEED!

Looking forward to helping out whenever I can.

Cheers,

Zane.
