Just spoke Andrew Thomas (Motor Sport Co-ordinator (Technical)) regarding the camera mounts.

His opinion is that it’s up to the chief scrutineer BUT he allows windscreen mounts providing the suction cap has not yellowed and that in most cases a secondary restraint is provided.
I “made his day” when I mentioned that even Etags were required to be removed at our level. He'd "never heard that one before".
CAMS has no current guidelines and they were, in his opinion, removed to ALLOW the newer suction mounts at the discretion of the chief scrut.
Technology is moving so fast that CAMS is unable to keep up.

He suggested that guidelines should be included in all sup regs to clarify for each event or series

He mentioned that each state seems to police the fitting of cameras differently.

Did the orders on Sunday come from the chief scrut?

Suggest we wait and see the feedback from the club about events on Sunday, and the issues that were raised.

For mine... although suction mounts are the easiest to use I think they are right to ban them. Only takes a greasy windscreen, or worse a windscreen which gets broken on track and you have an object flying around the inside of the car.

C of C supported the decision.
C of C is the top dog on the day.

We need only clarification for future events.

So good, it's worth mentioning twice! :-)

If that mount meets the rules or guidance from the club, it could be worth a group buy.

The tripod mount listed before will definitely work?

We had our performance box removed. It is designed with a triple suction cap mount for attaching to windscreens and is commonly used that way o'seas without any issue. The suction mounts have never looked like failing on ours nor on others used within the club to my knowledge. The unit needs to receive a satellite signal so windscreen mounting is desirible. It does come with an external ariel so could be mounted elsewhere with metal circlips or clamps but unfortunately the shape of the unit does not lend itself to this. It is a fantastic tool and represents a significant investment. I hope this issue can be resolved.

There are a lot of p-boxes in use in Australia. And agreed under normal circumstances the suction mounts are pretty solid.

I think the point is....when things go wrong there is a good chance it will be flying around the cabin. That is what they are looking to prevent. If you get shunted, or worse roll..... very unlikely but better safe than sorry. Same thinking as applies to seat belt use.

I brought myself a pmd roll bar mount
http://www.pmdraceproducts.com/home/
I ended up with a spare one. I'm bringing it to wakefield if anyone wants to buy it. You need to buy a tripod attachment for it though.
