Re: Charlie Brown's NC
Hey Phil, for the benefit of NC owners who might be considering following your path (no, not me), could you please summarise your current modifications? Going from memory, I think your car is only mildly modified: headers, exhaust, intake, coilovers, ECU remap, R-spec tyres, brake pads, brake ducting, race seat, harness. Probably a few other things I've missed. Amazing that it takes so little modification (but quite a bit of driver skill!) to drop a road-registered daily-driven NC into 1:09s!

Re: Charlie Brown's NC
Bryan, Phil has no harness!!
After he gets one and pads out the seat for his skinny arse, I'm sure we'll see another few tenths come off.

Yep, mostly right Bryan.
Mods are AEM cold air intake (don't know if this gets you any more power), Goodwin headers, stock mid pipe, small muffler for the track, Whiteline adjustable sway bars, Tein Flex shocks, lightened flywheel, DBA Club Spec front rotors, Hawk blue pads up front, EBC Redstuff at the rear, Motul 600 race brake fluid, SS brakelines, ducting to front brakes, Sparco seat, Deckspeed tune, 16x8 RX7 rims with V70a R-Spec tyres, the rest is stock. No braces, no 4.1 diff, no super/turbo charger, no harness, no bigger mid pipe but the biggest mod is "bum on seat time".

You need to come and play with us up front Neil. If a normally aspirated NC can do 1:09s then your's is 1:07 car, provided you can control wheel spin.

Thanks Marcus.
Here’s a time line on what “goodies” were fitted to the car and how they affected lap times at Wakefield, taking the best times achieved with them fitted.
• 7/2006 King lowering springs, stock Michelin tyres – 1:15.03
• 5/2007 King Springs, 16*8 RX7 rims fitted with second hand Dunlop 225*50 D01 tyres – 1:13.46
• 6/2007 King Springs, 16*8 RX7 rims fitted with second hand Dunlop 225*50 D01 tyres, Whiteline Sways Bars – 1:13.18
• 10/2009 King Springs, 16*8 RX7 rims fitted with second hand Dunlop 225*50 D01 tyres, Whiteline Sways Bars, Goodwin header – 1:11.26
• 2/2010 Teins, 16*8 RX7 rims fitted with new Kumho V70a 215*45 tyres, Whiteline Sways Bars, Goodwin header, slotted rotors – 1:10.64
• 6/2012 Teins, 16*8 RX7 rims fitted with Kumho V70a 215*45 tyres, Whiteline Sways Bars, Goodwin header, slotted rotors, lightened flywheel, Dynotronics tune – 1:10.33
• 1/2013 Teins, 16*8 RX7 rims fitted with Kumho V70a 215*45 tyres, Whiteline Sways Bars, Goodwin header, slotted rotors, lightened flywheel, Deckspeed tune – 1:09.65
You can see that the R-Spec tyres and the headers made a huge difference in time.
What shouldn't be forgotten was working with Stu at Spinning Wheel on various alignments and that should not be underestimated in the times achieved.
Also the fitting of the sway bars made more of a difference than is revealed with the times, as did decent brake pads. Don't fit Red Stuff.
So "bang for the buck" to get a NC going fast, in my perceived order:
Seat time,
R-Spec tyres,
alignment,
headers,
tune,
swaybars,
then springs/shocks.
See you at the track when you come east.

Re: Charlie Brown's NC
Congrats Phil that's an awesome time, should be very proud as it's incredibly hard to break that 1:10 barrier in a road car.... my car had everything in the rulebook except cam shafts and I still only ever cracked it less than 10 times ....
