This is not the point - it doesnt matter how many track days you have up your sleeve you shouldnt be speeding excessivly on public roads even if your Lewis Hamilton etc.
And just because I am on my P's doesnt mean I cant keep up because I dont have multiple track days experience. I do have multiple track days experience and have been racing karts for years, I just dont run around public roads like a maniac because I can.
was speaking generally, not targeted at you. anyone can speed if they want to but once you get into the twisties its a whole new ball game even without speeding. putting pressure on anyone in the hills can have serious consequences.

Dude!
Its got nothing to do with pressure and safety, its got to do with stupidity and safety.

Another serious issue ignored by people who want to argue using BS rather than facts.

Re: Club Runs and Excessive Speeding
Dann you came on one club run, joined half way etc.
You cannot speak from much experience on this matter as much as you tend to push your opinions.
No hate for you or Brendan (top bloke).
As for imposing a fine, handing plates to police. Good luck with that. Easily avoidable.
The spirited drives to break the speed limit, the amount of which varies upon any given situation.
I am sorry you had a bad experience, it's unfortunate and the speeding can be an issue. Twiggy is a P plater, she stays at the speed limit like you, catchs up at the next break. Often others such as Victor and myself slow down to cruise with her. I wasn't present for this event.

Re: Club Runs and Excessive Speeding
Brendan,
If it's any consolation mate, I did two of these runs in the one day; my first and my last!
Personally I find it concerning that these runs are officially sanctioned by the Club and are run under a CAMS Permit.
You're not alone either Brendan, if you do a forum search you'll find a number of previous posts expressing the same concerns as yourself.
If you haven't yet been to an MX5 Club track day, let me assure you that they are extremely well run, safe and absolutely loads of fun.

Re: Club Runs and Excessive Speeding
My last reply will be to hayden because he directed to me.
You are right, I have only experienced an hour of a club run and in that short time I still saw everything that is being discussed.
I think that is stronger than saying Ive been to 20 and seen it occassionally.
If it wasnt very common the chances of me seeing it constantly in the single hour I have been involved are pretty slim.

Aw cheer up Dann, I'm just stirring...
Definitely no hate for Brendan here either; just trying to keep things in perspective, and it's quite a mouthful to bring up after the fact without having really raised much of an issue other than his fear of license loss for ANY speeding offense (ie, even 5k's over) due to being on P plates at the time.
People tend to get more bent out of shape discussing things on forums than in person... (see: Dann's reaction to my little joke

Thanks Tony, yes I have been to MX5 Club track days and found it well run, safe and absolutely loads of fun. Which is why I was so dissapointed by the run on Sunday.

Re: Club Runs and Excessive Speeding
Doctor Bob:
My P plate situation is irrelevant, I would not speed and drive exactly the same way regarless what licence or points I have.
The point I am trying to raise is that official club runs should not be run at such an excessive pace by the entire group (even around other cars and traffic!). If certain individuals want to go abit faster thats fine (abit faster means not losing your licence when getting caught). But when the entire group decides to go out and just flat out get a speed fix then thats a problem.

Regie wrote:I have organised and led a few of these spirited Breakfast Club runs
They are labelled as a spirited drive, and the cruiser runs are just what they are.. a cruisier run through some twisty roads
The Run Leader does not go more than 10kmph above the speed limit, It tends to become a cascade effect of the people behind speeding up/ slowing down, maximising the gap then going for a quick squirt to catch up to the car in front, that's where you get your quicker speeds
I have been on most of the Breakfast Club runs since ive been a member (2009) and have spent time in various positions in the pack. The speed limits vary a lot when you start moving down in the pack.
Having said that, I was working on the weekend and didn't attend the meet.
I have only ever done 5 to 6 club runs in a bit more than 3 years of being a member, and this is the most accurate response I have seen to this thread.
I have found the further you are back in the pack, the more you start speeding and slowing down. Especially when you get some one in a Camry doing 20 under the limit in between the pack. I have only done the big runs like President Picnic and Concourse runs.
As for doing up to 50km/h over the limit as some have said and driving on the wrong side of the road in blind areas, I have to really question that, especially the people who do that. Never personally seen anything like that though.
I was the leader for the run to the Bathurst 12 Hour this weekend, and I pretty much didn't go over the limit the whole way up except for some down hill coasting, was mostly under. But what I could see in my mirrors was brief periods of speeding due to other cars being caught up in traffic, trying to catch up. But like 10-15 K's an hour over not 50!

Re: Club Runs and Excessive Speeding
Brendan: I can see that now after reading your posts; which is why I'm wondering why you didn't speak up more about it at the time and why you did take up the advice of moving to the middle of the pack, keeping pace with the leading group. I recall the conversations had at the side of the road quite clearly and you only mentioned being on your Ps as being an issue.
As others have said, you might have had a few people willing to cruise along with you at a leisurely pace if anyone had realised how much of a problem you had with the speeds being travelled. I agree with Luke and Regie's comments also, which probably has a bearing on what you experienced. Personally never went more than 20 over at any point (and only brief squirts) and exactly on or under the limit whenever passing through towns.
Sorry if that's a little harsh... I don't know how else to put it; I'm just a little bewildered as to why you didn't say something other than the point about your license at the time if it really was this much of a problem to you, and why what seems to be your main points were not mentioned at all. After all is said and done you are in control of your car and if you want to fall back nobody will stop you or hate on you for it. Also if you had done that your comments would hold a lot more water too, seems a bit hypocritical to do exactly what everyone else was doing and then condemn their behaviour after the fact.

Brendan
Well done for your stand on this subject. Yes the Breakfast club can be very spirited and occasionally a bit to much. I'm sure that the Club Captain will discuss this with the relevant people accordingly.
The up coming Jenolan Caves run on the 24th has two groups attending, Sydney and the newly formed RPM chapter. As a member of the second group, let me assure you that as a group we have discussed speed during our drives and we have all agreed to a moderate cruising speed. Both groups really enjoy the country drives and have some lovely people attached to them. Hopefully you will join us for the run and I look forward to meeting you.
We can also discuss your go karting prowess.
