Of corse its slower.......but man is it fun. Not so much by yourself.....but when you coming down a straight in a battle and the car in front is 1meter directly in front

and your watching his shoulders to see the exact moment he jerks the wheel so the weight shifts to start his scando entry and you kick the clutch and mimic his movement as soon as you see his body move...... all of a sudden there is a mountain of tyre smoke pooring from the lead car, you cant even see the track anymore, the only way to know you going to stay on track is to stay on his door! (if he comes in to hot and you both slide off track with him leading usually he will lose that battle ). If you make it through the first corner and direction switch time comes, you need to anticipate when he will switch and ease off throttle to 80% so your slide slows just enough to drop you back and you can switch just as he dose and your heart stops as his rear pumper swings past the front of your car so close you think for sure it is gunna take off your front bumper.....stab the throttle again before your heart even starts up again and he hasn't even finished the switch

or you'll drop a car length and it will be over for you if that happens

If your still on his door at the second corner then you have it in the bag!
Im not good....im lucky if i last 3 battles at a comp (comps are usually a top 16 meaning u battle 8 times to win). so i only get to experience that moment maybe 6 times a year
Its a different sport because you only have 3-4 corners to win and only one chance to get it right. 30-40 seconds and no mistakes.....or force the other guy to make one (americans have to run a brake light on the front now so judges can see if the lead car is over braking and forcing the trailing car to grip up).
Im not slow at a sprint day either and i enjoy the grip days as they help me understand high speed lines and help set the car up for better grip which is becoming more and more important at drift comps.
