Geeze there are some people here who really should take note of the old adage, 'better to keep quiet and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and demonstrate it'. The best piece of advice worth noting is for people to do their own research.

I caution anyone contemplating a hoist to follow that advice, and ignore the rest, including some of the 'facts' quoted upthread.

All vendors I have looked at have spec sheets and phone numbers, so no excuses if you get it wrong.

GLS, I will get back to you on the weekend, when I am back home.

Haven't read the whole thread, so the following is at face value.
I recently had a Powerrex SL2500 two post hoist installed in my garage. The slab was engineered for it and the installed price with a single phase motor was less than $5000. I chose the hoist based on advice from several industry professionals. Very happy with it. Purchased through Bursons. Very easy process.

Been looking around, and I am now concentrating on a clear floor 2-post hoist with LOW clearance lifting arms. I have my eye on one that is nominally 101mm, but can be modded to take another 10-20mm off - plenty low for an MX5 racecar. Don't believe the 30mm clearance quoted by one vendor, they have admitted that is a mistake. And speaking of shonky vendors, advertising prices without GST is (AFAIK) illegal.

I am prepared to pay for a clear floor hoist, as the new garage will be 3.6 or so wall heigth, and the humps are a nuisance.

Delivery is a bugger, unless you have forks on your tractor  , but a flat floor car trailer and an engine hoist, and a few old tyres, should do the job - I will let you know ...

Do your homework, there are a few traps here - I just hope I have not missed any ...

Got a link or company name of the one you are looking at now?

That's $5000 with the slab, right?

Did they explain how they are going to get the lifting pads under 110mm? I'd ideally like something that lifts from 70mm if possible?

For anyone contemplating installing it themselves, buy your mates LOTS of beer. A few of my co-workers installed a two post on Friday and we're very fortunate to have one of the awesome roof cranes. There's a lot of moving around with it and lifting you have to do, to get it level and in line. Make sure your friends are strong and know their beer choice.

Even better, pay a professional to install it.

Pretty much actually. The hoist was part of the plan from day one, so the additional costs of reinforcing the slab were minimal as I didn't need to mod an existing one.

Moving ahead, the workshop is up, and I need to pull the trigger if this is going to happen.

Anybody have any updates?

No, I gave up on the idea - would have needed to lay a new floor in the garage (there's a bit slope) plus the roof wasn't going to be high enough to get full use of the height...had to change garage door, etc etc.

As an alternative, I'm getting a trailer which would hopefully give me a bit of height to get under the car.
