Following the incident at the track yesterday, I'd like to direct everyone to the (recently published) CAMS social media guidelines and policy, which state the following:
CAMS wrote:Never post photos or comments about a motor sport incident.
It is vitally important that we all respect the privacy of individuals involved in accidents or incidents, whether on or off track. Never, ever post photos, comments or information on social media or other online forum about an accident or incident. Remember point 2: Put yourself in their shoes.

In my role as President of the Mazda MX-5 Club of NSW, and as a friend of Bob, your support in this regard would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks to Mike and crew for another great day!

My first time as the South circuit, and I have to say that the track map gives no indication of what it is really like. In fact, looking at the track from the pit area gives little indication of what awaits behind the hill! The big thing about South is the elevation changes - heavy acceleration and braking on steep slopes, some tight turns, and some lovely flowing bends.

I was pleased to get the GM into the 8s, in spite of several loses, and, I have to admit, a certain amount of over-driving. Hopefully next time I can build on that experience ...

In hindsight, that makes sense, Guran.

I heard a couple of drivers mention understeer as an issue at SMSP and found my own car understeering too, not badly but it was there at various times. My suspension is adjustable and I used the Wakefield Pk set up being my first time at SMSP. Car is neutral at WP. I will firm up the rear and see what happens in July. Maybe "someone" will write a "lap of SMSP-South" for the NSW Club website as the circuit becomes better understood.

Unfortunately no adjustment for me with oem suspension and sways, only adjustment i could make was tyre pressures and then putting the crap tyres at the rear haha.

Results are already up on the club website. That was quick! Great work by all the officials as usual.

My PBox timer said I squeeked a 1:09.31 on the last run of the day but Zan recorded it as 1:09.41. My quickest official lap was 1:09.39 on the 4th run. Fractionally slower than my 1:09.26 set in October.

Wow, driving dad's NC, was like driving on ice. I could never tell if it was going to grip or not.
When I take the rims off I might take some pics of the tyres, looks like they have started to de-laminate as they are missing quite a few chunks of rubber.
New tyres for next time will be a requirement, let the quoting begin. :)
At least I got 2 targets, a 1'09 and beat Bryans standard NA. Hopefully with some new rubber a low 1'08 won't be out of the question.

And yes I did run my car as a lot of people questioned on the day, and yes it is excluded from the results as it was not entered. Brought it along for experimental purposes only. It would have been 8th overall and 2nd in group 8 with a 1'05.something, have the printout but not on me.
The good news is, you can fit 225/45/16 Toyo R888's on an NB SE with standard suspension with absolutely no guard modifications. Plastic splash shields intact as well.
And as Toyo says they can fit on 16x7's, just. The offset of the rims is +40 if any one is curious why they didn't rub.
Thanks to Rob for the 4 year old Toyo's(17th week of 2009 production), experiment success!!! Will run them at the next Supersprint round, as to me they have more grip than anything I have run before. I have shredded them up a bit though, gather you are not supposed to make them squeal in every corner. Best $ to time ratio ever.

Bryan love the new camera and graphics (jealous.... :x ). The body roll is insane! We always knew when you were coming up, could hear you before you arrived. 1.09 is some effort.

Thanks Craig. Turn 10 (left hand, crested, off-camber) is becoming a favourite corner for me. It's like Lukey Heights on steroids! Just a throttle lift before turning in, then slide it all the way round, playing constantly with the car attitude. So much fun! And then there's the most diabolical corner immediately after it. :frown: You have to be SOOOO patient with that left hairpin.

I use DashWare to overlay the PBox data onto the video. Only costs about $40 and is reasonably easy to use ... once you figure out a procedure. Happy to explain the process if you want to give it a try. :)

Thanks Bryan. I've copied that over to another forum (guys running in the CSCA sprint that was on the north circuit) where the incident and photos had come up.

A good day and well run given the number of recoveries from the gravel. The E-type and GT40 who lined up with us would have been interesting, until they went off to their correct North circuit !!

Didn't those dragsters make some noise !!!

A good challenging track and still lots to be learnt to string it all together. Understeer and running out of gears was my issue- 2nd too low, but lugging in 3rd, so plenty of time on the rev limiter in 2nd.

I was happy that I improved every sessions - 1.11.08, 1.09.49, 1.09.23, 1.08.75 to finish with 1.08.64 and had a great dice with Mitch, Ed Corey and Allan Rewell swapping quicker times by small amounts.

Thanks to all the officials as it seems to take a lot more organisation effort than a Wakefield day.

Thanks for putting up that vid, Bryan. Illuminating as always. Turn 10, yes, that is good fun and I am yet to conquer it. No way did I risk a little lift off then an arm wrestle; it was a short jab on the brake (while still in a straight line and before turning) then on the throttle down the hill to the diabolical hairpin where I scrambled for traction. Blesif is probably arriving at T10 a tad faster than Little Reddy due to more power up to the crest but I'm also less game which I freely admit. Nevertheless, like most here, I'm looking to maximise. Your vid suggests I have the lines right which helps answer the question I asked earlier specifically re T10. Any chance of posting a longer video showing two or three laps strung together to help us novices?

I'll see what I can do Neil. The easiest option would be to just burn all of them onto a DVD and give it to you at the next Illawarra Chapter meeting? In the meantime, this video shows a full run of four laps from my previous visit to the Amaroo Circuit in October. I think it was quicker conditions that day.
