Difference between MX5 Club Day and NSW Supersprint

Postby craigj » Mon Jul 15, 2013 3:46 pm

Hi,
Newbie question. I have managed to survive two MX5 Club Day SuperSprints and have entered for the August day which is also a round of the NSW SuperSprint Championship. I am running a road registered non modified NC and will be running 1B in August. Looking at the results of previous rounds of NSW SS Championship the lap times look a bit quicker; are people stepping up for the round or are there differences on what tyres can be run or something? Not that it really matters as I will be running what I have, just curious.

Cheers,
Craig

Hi Craig - Great to see another club member joining us at the supersprint rounds. :D

In Type 1 (which includes Class 1B), you're allowed to use R-spec tyres. This can make up to two seconds a lap difference, compared with regular road tyres. Looks like we'll be rivals in Type 1B. I'm keen to see how my new set of R-specs go at Wakefield Park.

You're in Illawarra, right? I'll be leaving from Albion Park at around 6am on the Sunday morning. Will keep an eye out for you on the way.

Craig,

I just want to be sure you are clear.

The MX5 club is hosting the 6th round of the NSW Supersprint championship at Wakefield Park on Sunday 18th August.
Then on the Monday 19th August, there is an MX5 club track day, also at Wakefield Park.

So the club track day and the supersprint round are not the same event.

David

Good point David.

Craig, the two are run on the same basis - compete in classes, run in groups doing similar times.

The SS are a step up, a bit less social, a bit more competitive. You will be competing/running with a wider variety of cars, a new set of faces (mostly).

Having said that, they are great fun, the people are friendly and helpful, and you will see quite a few familiar faces there.

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

Thanks guys,
I will be running on the Sunday; have to work for a living so no Mondays.

The last two rounds I ran with my son Kyle but he is on a school snow trip and although I will not be on R Spec tyres they are new KU36's which do not have to do double duty so hopefully that will help my times a bit. Besides I am still very much competing with myself and loosing to my son so I am focusing on improving my times. Keeping within 2 seconds of the 1B MX5's on R-Specs will be my aim.

I am from the Illawarra but given Kyle is away I will probably take the wife away for the weekend and stay somewhere close on Saturday night. She is used to the rough and tumble of karting so it will be good to see a Super Sprint and prove I am not trying to kill her baby, that's Kyle not me or the car :0)

Cheers,
Craig

Many of the officials and some competitors will be travelling down to Goulburn on the Saturday and staying at the Bakehouse Motel on Saturday and Sunday night. The rooms are decent quality, the price is reasonable (around $95-$100 per night from memory), and breakfast at the Bakery next door is a convenient option. It's also a great social event, going out for dinner with the various club members. Please let Mike Hicks know if you plan to book in at the Bakehouse.

BTW, I work on Mondays too. I'll be taking annual leave for the day. 8) The club track days are so much fun that I never miss out on one if I can help it.
