Received the paperwork for Round 4 on 16th June at the Brabham Circuit. 125 drivers have entered, with 19 championship entrants each from MX-5 Club and ARDC (by my estimate). Will be a busy day!

My entry is in for the 28th. Any peculiarities for scrutineering required or all pretty standard, been so long I can't remember!

Hi guys, has anyone received the paperwork for Round 5 yet? Normally I'd get it approximately one week before the event, but after finding nothing in my mail again today, I'm starting to worry that they may have overlooked my registration.

Gus,

I got an email acknowledgment on 2/7 that my entry for round 5 had been "received & accepted", but have also not seen anything in the mail yet.

BTW, I have a DVD for you with the pictures Graham took at the last club track day. Remind me to pass it on to you on Sunday in case I forget.

See ya
David

Yeah, same here. I emailed Dianne questioning about the track papers and she replied that she was about to send the email out...

Don't worry. This is standard practice for a NSWRRC supersprint.

Cutting it a bit fine.

It is doing to be a busy day, with all those entries.

At this time, if I can get a wheel alignment tomorrow I will be in the white car, so I hope to give the Civics a bit of hurry up. Looks like the Lotus is sitting out this dance, what a pity - not

Not attending this one Guys

I have some unresolved ABS problems that I need to overcome before I hit the track again, as I don’t want to flat spot the other three (two track day old) V70A's.

The ABS has swung from not working to intermittently activating on slight pedal pressure. All sensors have been cleaned so I’ll look at other possibilities tomorrow.

Have fun, I know you will.

Round 6 was held at sunny Wakefield Park - the season is now getting to the pointy end.

The day was sunny but cool, and the opening laps were VERY slippery - that is my excuse anyway  .

I turned up looking for the Civic, who wasn't on the acceptances, but might have been a late entry. My interest came from the fact that for the last three rounds he had scored three 10's, and if he kept that up he would finish on 60 points. If I finished second to him for those three rounds, I would finish on 61 (after dropping my worst result) ... a knife edge result, as if we tied he would win on count back. But the gods smiled, and he did not turn up.

After a hesitant start I moved up a few spots and ran behind Luke and Steve. Steve is still having a few problems that first showed up at PI earlier this month - intermittent problems which are hard to track down. Luke ran hard and fast all day - watching how high the back of his car rises under brakes, I am not surprised that his disks cried 'enough!' I was very pleased to see how consistent my lap times were, probably partly as a result of chasing Luke, but I was consistently in the low 11s, finishing the day with a best of 10.8 8) . There is more to come as I get to grips with the ABS brakes which are new to me, and I need to unleash a few more revs. A bit more seat time might help too  - I spoilt a hot lap by wrong slotting T11 and spinning, so I am sure the car pace is there, I just need to work on the driver now.

The day finished with Bryan leading 1B (and Type 1, a magnificent effort on 1600cc  ), me leading 3B, and David leading 4B (having graduated from 3B with Steve), with strong support from a host of others.

We have a struggle to retain our club crown from last year, as the ARDC have 851 points to our 797, and they will be strong at the last two rounds at EC/SMP.

So if you are registered, please try and have a run at these last two.

If you would like to give supersprints a try, this is a good time to do it - it is really nothing more that a multi-club version of our club track days, you will need an L2S though, a fire extinguisher and a couple of stickers as well as tow hooks (loops of strapping through the tiedowns will suffice). If you are not registered, it is not too late. Registration is $50, and required to be eligible to score championship points.

Round 7 acceptances are out, and 3B looks pretty challenging with the ultra-quick Civic and the Lotus fronting. The Civic may be in reach, if I have a really good day, but not the Lotus :frown:

I had better get in an entry for Rd 8 ...

Well done Ed,
My reading of the results and the points table is that you have 3B won.
Congrats!

Looking further at other potential class placings by club members, assuming everyone competes at the last round at SMP south:
1B - Bryan Sheddon has 1st in class if he gets 5th or better in the last round.
2B - Ralph Thompson has 2nd
2C - Luke Kovacic has 3rd
3A - Peter Browning has 3rd
3B - Ed Corey has 1st
3C - Ray Estreich will keep 3rd in the class with a 5th or better at the next round, and 2nd in class is a possibility
4B - Ian Combes, Steve Green and myself have 1st through 3rd in class
5B - Phil Abrahams has 2nd
SVB - Mike Hicks has 2nd, and Greg Bunn has 3rd
Note - these are my assessments, please correct me if they are wrong.

While these are the potential class place-getters for the club, they are not the main contributors to the club points tally. That comes from the bulk of the 32 club members (by my count) who entered the championship this year and who get out there and do their best and have helped rack up the majority of the 913 points currently awarded to the club.

Hopefully we can stack the field with MX-5 club members for the final round at SMP south and claw back some of the 100 point lead of the ARDC.

Thanks David. However, the individual pointscores do not yet include the "drop round", where the worst round is dropped from the tally.

I'm currently 5 points ahead of Tony Chan in Class 1B and 4 points ahead in Type 1. My worst rounds were 8 points in Class 1B and 7 points in Type 1, whereas Tony has already missed a round and therefore his tally includes a "drop round". So effectively I'm 3 points behind him in both Class and Type. At the final round, I need to collect at least 4 points more than Tony to win Class 1B & Type 1. That could happen if I win at the final round, and Glenn, Mitchell and Keith all finish behind me but ahead of Tony (hopefully they'll all enter). If the difference is 3 points, then we'll be tied on points and Tony will win because he's beaten me in more rounds. It will be close, but I suspect that he will pip me to the post.

Incidentally, I missed my chance when Tony retired early at Wakefield Park last month. Had I gone 0.06s faster, I would have beaten him on the day and been a further 2 points ahead at this stage. I think that tiny margin will be the difference in the final result.

The reason I went quicker than Tony yesterday is that he is now driving a Toyota 86 with stock street tyres. He had very little corner grip and was driving quite conservatively. Not sure what happened to his Celica, in which he was usually much faster than me???

Thanks David :) .

The pointscore works by dropping the worst round - ie best 7 of 8 results count. Looking at the points for class, when you drop the worst round, Bryan will have to beat the Celica by four places - three and it goes to count back and the Celica will win as he has scored four wins, versus Bryan with one, or two if he wins Rd8 (I think that is how it works). The others are as you called it. (On preview, what Bryan said)

The results for 3B show that consistency is all-important. The Escort has been in there scoring points all season, even though he is, relatively speaking, well off the pace of the front runners. Hell, even I am off the pace of the front runners with the race car! As a result, he could have beaten me if I had more than the one bad day that I did have (so far). But the Lotus and the Civic have missed rounds/had bad days, and that has let me in. You can afford to miss a round, or have a problem at one round, but if you do and you fancy your chances of taking out the class, you had better have a decent result every other round because otherwise you are relying on others to allow you to win it.

I am happy to take the class win, even though I was not fastest in the class, but it lacks something as a result. In contrast, I get more satisfaction from the 2006 2B win, as that was hard fought between three of us, and although it looked like I romped it in with five wins, each of those wins (and the other results) were hard won - have a bad day (and there were a couple) and the other two would blow you out of the water. Fortunately for me, they were also taking points off each other, which also helps.

Speaking of bad days, yesterday could have ended in tears (or worse) with a big lose through the T4 flip-flop, and the car ending with its boot in the tyre wall. The good news is that this was late in the day and I had set a fast time, and the even better news is that car and driver survived basically unscathed. A hot entry, and a RR tyre with low pressure, will do that

Alls well that ends well though, so bring on Rd8 8) :D
