Not sure about FIA approval (given the clothing requirements aren't FIA standard, just cotton neck-wrist-ankle) but non-flammable material would presumably be a minimum, eg leather gloves.

Check with Charles if unsure.

That is the racing requirement and if that is what they are mandating - that's the standard. All seems pretty silly. OTT

I think they're taking the AASA standards in the regulations then adding bits and pieces to it. Charles' response was "we like to play safe", so it's not necessarily consistent in the standards that are above and beyond that required in the standing regulations.

Here is the AASA blurb: It is mandatory for all Drivers in racing events to wear driving suits, gloves and footwear of an approved flame retardant material which effectively covers the body at all times whilst on the race track. All suits must meet the appropriate Australian Standard or a standard as approved by AASA, from time to time.

Washing up gloves are out. And where they say 'approved' the fall back standard tends to be the Cams standard.

Hmmm early shower forecast for tomorrow. Could be interesting with those historic cars out there, let alone the tight track

My thoughts too. I was not impressed with the double booking fiasco as several hours before receeiving the news I decided it would be nice to make tomorrow more enjoyable by coming today and getting scrutineering etc out of the way.Having made a non-refundable hotel booking I have just arrived so at least I can stay in bed a bit longer in the morning.
Tomorrow remind me to show you my Rpm/speed spreadsheet which you may find handy for evaluating possible changes to gear ratios or wheel/tyre sizes or profiles in the future. For those of us on a limited budget it is great to be able to accurately quantify changes before spending the cash.

Got an email that they are running low on flaggies for this round, so thought I might come out and help.
So if you see a big round monster waving all the flags at you at once, its prolly just me saying g'day!
Seeya out there!
So lets go!

Can people come in as spectators? Free entry?
Was thinking about coming round and doing some photography, but cant seem to find any info about entry, apart from them saying you need a wristband to enter paddock area. What constitutes as paddock area these days for the south circuit

Free entry, no one is checking wristbands in the paddock. Just don't go into the pit lane.

Magic weather today for the Sth Circuit today, actually pretty warm! Lots of familiar faces. Racing with myself, John and Bill representing the mx5 crew, and a load more on track and dropping in to say hi. Spence, Yemin, and others?? doing the regularity/Come and Try it. Plus Señor Quick&junior, Scotty, Scott, Mike Hicks, Russ... a lot of fun! (hope you got home ok Spence..?)

I was pretty tentative early on, but feeling more comfortable each session. Still a second off the pace of the rest of the mx5 crew on this circuit in the last Fosc here...plenty of room for improvement. Cracked 1.07 for a 1.07.9 ish (timing not updated yet) Bill did 106.5 I think (but not able to get by that pesky green machine :D ).

John did a 1.05 something, with only 3 and 4th gear! (Looked for you to help you get it on the trailer but you obviously loaded it ok..?)

Made it home fine (again). Will need a thorough going over before I'll put it back on track.

It was a great day with a very friendly/chatty atmosphere. If was to enter FoSC again I'd definitely do the regularity. The Come and Try was a nice idea and allowed me to test my car on track not too far from home (and confirm it still has some undiagnosed gremlins that are creeping in). That said, the format of throwing 25-28 cars on track at once with no regular spacing, with vastly different skill levels and cars, led to a procession for the first lap or two, then passing a heap of cars and still running into more. Lapping at 5-10 seconds below my PB was a bit frustrating, but I still had a great day and was happy to see my mate get a good clear run at the end in his Clio.

Was good to catch up with most and see some racing. Was painful sitting on this side of the track!
Now we need to upload the video of the Clio break in haha

What video did you get? Although I wanted my mate to get back on track for the next run, the keys locked in the car was pretty damn funny... until I realised I'd left my helmet in his car when we took mine to grab lunch!
