Installing gauges - Help out a forum member - BNE/Gold Coast

Hey guys

Iv got a autometer oil temp and oil press gauge to install into my nb8b, both electrical.

I was wondering if there was someone in the Gold Coast or Brisbane region with some experience with this that wouldnt mind giving me a hand to fit these? It looks pretty straight forward but Iv never wired up gauges before and Im not that great when it comes to electrical things and, I would like some opinions on where to run the wires.

Im on the Gold Coast myself and if the person likes Im more then happy to pay them for their time or buy you a bottle of your favourite beverage ;)

Rhys where/how are you going to install the sensors?

I have a oil filter relocation kit fitted and on the adaptor it has 2 sender ports.

Rhys I may have some time next week to help out. I'm wiring all my data logging sensors tomorrow so I will be over wiring forms few days

Since you have the plate it will be easier, just check to see that the sensor fit the adapter plate. Where do you want to put the gauges?

Or you could ask for somebody to host a dodgy day and have it done then...

Ill have a good look tomorrow but the sensors should fit, there is about 3 with each gauge all different sizes so one will fit.

I bought gauge cups to mount them but I was looking today and Im not 100% sure where to put them. I don't want to get pulled over for having them in the wrong places and being so called illegal but there isn't too many places down low where there is room for them.

I will have a look to try and find a spot

When unscrewing the nut and screwing the sensors into the sandwhich plate/adaptor will we have to drain the oil out so it doesn't pour out when putting the sensors in or just quickly swap over and clean up small amount of oil the drains out?

Next Friday I head back to work sorry. When placing the gauges down low you will need to remember to look at them.

That's fine, Only other places Iv thought to mount the gauges is either on the plastic dome part that covers the factory gauges, one on either side, or on the A pillar but mounting 2 there might be difficult. Im trying to work out how to get the wires through the firewall too, I cant find any of the holes where the factory wires go through.

There's a pod available to put gauges on the A pillar. Mania?

I had seen that one but it says its for an NA only apparently it needs a bit of trimming or something to fit it to a NB.

What kind of relocation kit do you have? brand etc?

Its a Works Engineering relocation kit, from Mania.

When I did my oil relocation kit on the NB stubby spanners were very handy

I thought of that haha its a very tight spot to get into where its mounted, hard to get to the 2 port/screw things anyway getting to the filter is much easier.

Do I need to drain the oil from the engine so it doesn't pour out of the holes in the relocation adaptor or do I leave the oil in and just quickly take out the screw and quickly screw the sender in?

Is the sensors in the adapter plate?

I don't think it will matter because even if you did drain your oil there will still be oil there

Not knowing how that setup works maybe you could loosen off the oil filter so the oil drains back into the engine and there should be less oil coming out when you undo the plugs to put the sensors in

Great, that's a good idea.

The 2 screws/sender ports are directly under the oil filter on the adaptor/sandwhich plate.
