Re: the ultimate mx5 engine????
Nope.
It will probably make less power than an LS but will be much cooler and sound sweet.

That's not new enough. And it's what they used to use.
Maybe a ur motor? Supercharged k24?

Re: the ultimate mx5 engine????
k24 wont fit without a lot of work. And besides.. why bother when you can have an f20c (still a bit of a faff from what i understand). I could not think of anything better. 180 odd kw, not too much torque to just fry the tires, 9k redline and that f*%#ing awesome sound!
AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Re: the ultimate mx5 engine????
Because F20's suck.
Ask any Honda nut, the K series is simply a better engine, it has a larger aftermarket, has much more capacity and doesnt have oil control issues.
Also we are talking about an engine for a tube frame car with an MX5 footprint, not an mx5.

OP says differently
im just sitting here in the sun, waiting for a client to arrive, musing, perhaps absurdly , on what the ultimate mx5 engine would be?
k24 is a newer engine which is used in a lot more cars then f20c so i would hope there would be a lot more aftermarket for it. I don't care for capacity either, and even if i did theres still an f22c and its weird how i always see j's racing s2k, and the amuse r1 thrashing it as some of the quickest cars on the touge without problems.
I guess everyones entitled to there opinion, just like i would like an mx5 with an f20c you can have yours with what ever you like, at the end of the day its an mx5.

Dmad_dood, The conversation has moved onto this question which was posed at the end of page 2.
I agree that everyone should have what they want, for me its probably a 20b PP, still

I'm looking forward to seeing the NC with 20B too.
It is ideal.
The bullet cars next motor is not so much a modern engine...
Pretty sure it was from the 90s.
