Re: Going to get my first mx5
The guys that did the mightycarmods turbo mx5 are based in Noosa.
$3K might not be far off the cost of the conversion if you are happy to use cheap options like used TD04, log manifold, ebay cooler etc.

Give them a call and speak to Either AL (Turbo Yoda) or Miles (Dose Vader)
I'm also with the guys suggesting to get the NA.
Love mine.

Re: Going to get my first mx5
I just purchased a MX5 (last week in fact) and i choose a NA6 for the following reasons
- No Power steering
- No ABS
- No Airbags
-
I prefer my cars to be a bit raw. I dont like ESP, ABS, etc.. I want to feel the car and be in control.
The lack of a LSD is the only downside, something that can be easily fixed.
Also mine is a 1990 model (couldn't find a 89) so will be able to use club rego soon

Re: Going to get my first mx5
Thanks guys for all the replies.
For now, I'm pretty set on the NA (still can't accept the look of NB) and its simplicity
Test drove 2 NA8 today, one was in pristine condition (39,000 km) not sure if is genuine mileage but it does drives really smoothly and new, the transmission felt very good too, according to him, Jason from MX5plus talks highly about the condition of this. The second one was at 166,000 km, not very well maintained, the engine wasn't as lively as the first one.
There's a few nice NA6 that im eyeing on but not local, just wondering what is it like for not having a power steering for daily drive and motox (i believe tracking wouldn't make much of a difference)? I did searched and saw mixed up response. Is there any kind soul in brissy with a non-P/S NA6 that I can try on?

Unless you have the muscle tone of wet paper non p/s is fine. I wouldn't buy one with it.

Buy Emily's one, it's a steal.
Weight of steering will be dependent on tires and rims as well.

I have >4.5 deg castor and I can park one handed with no p/s, and I'm a 70kg weakling.
There's a reason people with p/s delete it. It's heavy and disconnects you from feeling the road.

Re: Going to get my first mx5
NBs are better cars. Interestingly I have had a number of comments from older car enthusiasts that prefer the Nb looks as the best of the NA NB NC model range- but each to our own.

Re: Going to get my first mx5
Ive had 3 mx5s.
2 had factory non PS and one was a Eunos with PS.
I will never buy a Non PS again.
The assited steering in the NAs anyway, was beautifull.
Made the car feel so much more nimble and precise, especially mid corner.
Track only car is a different story.
But for dual duties, I believe Power steering is your friend.
Make sure you drive both, as it seems to divide people.
