Most likely it just needs the pin code input. Do you have the original car handbook? Usually the pin code is on a business card in that on most cars I've owned. Not entirely sure on the mx5.

If it has the original radio then the pin will be the last four digits on the chassis number.
You only get three go's to type it in correctly.

There is some sort of special button sequence that will unlock a locked radio. Had the dealer do it for me once after a service.

press and hold Auto M & 6>>
