Motorkana Sunday 17th Sutton Rd Q'beyan

Postby greenMachine » Fri Nov 15, 2013 12:05 pm

MG Car Club Canberra are short of entries for Sunday's event at the Sutton Rd Driver Training Centre.

Any locals, or non-locals too, who would like a run, or like to find out what a low-cost, high-fun event this is, would be welcomed! You will need your membership card, and an L2S which used to be available on the day.

PM me with your email and I can send you the entry form. Or just turn up!

Ed,

I'm surprised a L2S license is required, as usually a L2NS is sufficient for a Motorkhana ?

Yes, MG will accept a L2NS or higher.

However, due to noise regulations they can only run road registered vehicles - {yes I know it is stupid but the complainants have the ear of government and have come close to closing down motorsport in Canberra - it is a continual battle to keep events running. They even have their own noise meters to monitor noise levels, even though the Fairbairn Park complex was a motorsport venue well befor any housing was built !! - end of rave).

There are usually several MX5s running at the motorkhanas, with Joe Craddy usually doing very well in his Eunos.

They are run on a bitumin surface.

Unfortunately I will be at the inaugral hillclimb at Cooma, so can't be at the motorkhana as they are great fun.

David, you are correct

That means that an L2S would be accepted if you have it, but if not the L2NS would be the cheaper/minimum requirement.

Do it, do it, do it, do it, do it. I know a lot of the regulars are away this weekend with the hillclimb in Cooma so it would be a real shame for the event to get cut.

Incredibly cheap motorsport, very little wear and tear on the cars, very well suited to something light and nimble (you know, like an MX5...); what more could you want? I'd normally be there with bells on but alas, I'm interstate this weekend. The MG Club does a great job and there's plenty of people there willing to help if you're nervous about your first time.
