Fake(?) yellow sticker

Got defected for being too low (Mazdaspeed/Eibach springs)
Take it into my exhaust place as that's what their wheel hit, to grind a flange back, and he shows me that the flange was the lowest point of the car, and grinds it back a bit, and gets it to 105mm. (was 100 exactly before).

We think they're using a 110mm wheel, because it didn't just touch the bottom of the exhaust, it smacked right into the side of the thing!! They also didn't bother to check that the ground was flat or anything (shopping center car park is where they tested me) Any recourse here?

What would be your tips, I'm going to get the car ticked off at VICroads soon. My plan is as follows
1. Grind the flange back (done)
2. press the exhaust towards the car with a big jack to bend a mm or 2 into it (done)
3. Pump the tires right up (or maybe buy some only just RW higher profile tyres, and stick them on my stock rims for the check.
3. Shed some kilos. I'll be taking everything unneccesary out of the car, (spare tire, stuff like that) Anything else easily removed for easy temporary weight loss?

Exhaust guy noted that 'wedging' the springs would help but might be obvious.

Quite annoyed, was just quietly parking my car for a coffee with the missus and they take nearly an hour of my time, nearly $400 in a fine, and the damn car isn't even lower than 100mm!!!

Mazdaspeed springs shouldn't be that low, they should be a 30mm drop.

My Mazdaspeed springs lowered mine to ~115mm at the pinchwelds, and a little higher at the nose.
My exhaust doesn't hang below the frame rails (stock midpipe + highflow cat)

I can't remember if I had the 195 or 205 tyres when I measured that, the 205s add 5mm of clearance.

You can change the way that the exhaust hangs by using cable ties or hose clamps around the rubber hangers.

Corrupt cops cheating citizens out of money and freedoms to improve conviction rate and attempt to get a promotion... Who would have thought?

Just put like 50psi in the tyres, and as greg said, hose clamp the hangers.

it has nothing to do with corruption thats nonsense. Its either too low or its not. If you want to dispute the fine there are processes and checking the regs is a good start. Repair shops are not the arbiters. The exhaust shop or the tyre people etc will never buy into these things. There reality is that there are a lot of cars that are illegally modified or just plain not roadworthy- bald tyres etc. If the fine is legitimate then just accept it and fix the car properly- messing around with cable ties or grinding a support flange hardly sounds like good engineering.

So because a little flange hangs down a few mm you thing the best recourse is to put all new springs in? That sounds like great engineering, don't fix the problem (exhaust hangs low) fix the symptom......

Their "wheel" must comply with the National measurements act of 1960. Guidelines for the use and accuracy of measuring instruments for trade and for their use legally. There are cases and wins I can quote for you when I have time if you do want to fight the fine.

Has to be flat. No incline or decline allowed.

All of that's all well and good ... but try arguing that at the time and all you'll get is a bigger fine and more BS defects ... they know there's f'all you can do ...

It may well be that the exhaust is just not sitting as nicely as it should, when I installed my GWR Roadsport muffler the right side pipe was a little lower than the left, after careful measurements etc, I decided that the best plan of attack was a wide (10mm) cable tie around the hanger as the solution, one 'click' at a time enabled me to adjust the tips to the same height and I was happy, and have been for two years. "Messing around with cable ties", is not a big deal, do you change failed light globes in you home or do you get an electrician in?

The fine was supposed to be for "driving a vehicle which does not comply with the requirements of registration" or something to that tune.

They hate having to spend time in court and the more people hold them to account the less they will be inclined to target us for bogus sh*t.

A bit of realism here- Buckleys chance of avoiding this. Pay it and rectify it would be the sensible approach. Courts are places that will favour the Police esp if anyone is not represented and getting representation costs a lot. Its all a bit crazy saying that the car park of a shopping centre was not flat- how on earth would that be proved ie the exact location of the car and how to measure it and who is qualified to do that etc- there will be no GPS readout of where the car was. What I am not clear about is however made the car mod- were they aware of the vehicle then not complying with regulations. I guess businesses do what the customer wants?
Rectification- I take Taminga's point - I have used much wire and dodgy methods on old rockets in the past.

hit them with BS, they'll mess with you. hit them with rules, they have to listen.. otherwise in court their are applicable to suspensions and retraining. i have seen it happen.
