C-S Silver NB8A

Postby Warmy_Corner-S » Sun Dec 08, 2013 3:33 am

I have been dríven my NB for a year. It's time to share my little modification in the past 12 months.
This is my first RWD. I have been spending a year looking for a NA. However, I couldn't find a good condition NA after few test drive.
At the end I bought this 1999 NB with very low km (51,000km,,,yes! it's a real km), very clean engine, very good stock condition and very good price! The previous owner is a lawyer. He bought the car 7 years ago and most of the time just keep the car inside the garage.

Here are some photos I took when the car arrived in 11/2012
Image
You might notice there is a minor damage at the front bumper and fender
Image

The first I did was to remove the luggage racks. To be honest, this is quite ugly and I gave it to my friend.

I spent some time to consider, should I keep it as a perfect stock condition NB or to personalize my NB??? And the answer is the 2nd option:)

I didn't do any modification in the next few months because I wanted to understand more about the car. I really fall in love with the handling although this is under power be honest. I had experience dríven bigger engine sports car, for sure mx5 won't give me the G-force but the handling is just beautiful. The only car can match with mx5 is.......... Lotus Elise (more realistic in price!)

After few months, I decided to change the interior lighting colour. I really dislike the green colour dashboard and then I replaced by red light bulb. However, the result not as good as i expected. I also add red floor light as well.

Image
The floor light not bad but the dashboard...err....

At the mean time, I also took some photos with my other car, Celica...

I started to consider new alloy wheels after the interior lighting. I did some research on wheels size for mx5 and the best is 15 or 16 inch for NB non-turbo. I have a low profile tyre on my celica for many years and they really not suitable for the horrible road condition in Sydney. Therefore, I bought a set of Matt black (was consider in orange!) AXIS OS - 15 x 8 - 25 Offset - 4x100 from Mx-5 Mania with my original Bridgestone 195/50/15 tyre. I really love the deep dish rim....old skul style!

Image
I was considered orange rim with orange side mirrors!

Image
MX5 Mania....waiting for my new rim!

Image
Took them off

Image
hmmm...they didn't look convincing..

Image
Something wrong with the height. I was considered lower spring and new shocks.

Image
Not too bad with the NA:)

Installed side mount position bracket from mx5 mania. The result looks great!
Image

I have also installed company stickers on both doors and the back bumper....in some way it looks like a Porsche GT3 RS which is not very nice. Therefore I am not going to spray the side mirror in orange and just keep it in silver. Btw, orange side mirror does look like a Rental car! :)

Now you should know why I picked orange. Yes, it relates to my company colour:)

New number plate

I bought a Momo leather gear knob in Hong Kong last year. It's a very good one, however, i don't really like the 'look'. It looks quite boring to me.

New Sparco gear knob & handbrake from ebay. They look very nice but the edge quite sharp and not very comfy. However, they work better with Sparco Racing Glove:)

I think the result looks good. However, if i bring it on track, I might need to install another one:(

What's next? King Spring! I lowered the car by 30mm and keep the stock shocks. It might not a very good idea but i consulted with the seller, he said my shocks still very new, I can still keep the stock shocks with the new spring. If I am not happy with the performance, I can always replace shocks later. After test drive, i think he is right, it works quite well.

Ok! What next? My friend sold me his carbon fibre GT wing. He bought it from Japan in 2006 but never had a chance to install in his car. GT wing.... Love it or hate it! To me, I can tell you i really hate it for road car. I know all the downside by installing GT wing. I can also see many people install GT wing on their four door family car which is really strange. However, never say never, end up i installed on my NB. If you want to do something, you can easily find thousand of reasons to support your idea. Why do i install it? It is because i like it! :) personally i think it fits perfectly on my NB (aesthetically). Also, it is much lighter than i expected. How about downforce? To be honest, there is not much difference as I won't speeding. :) for sure it doesn't do much if you drive under 130km/h. Love it or hate it? I love it!

Image
Does it fit?

Not too bad!
