Stunning choice of car, kind of the previous owner to leave it in primer grey so you can give it a brand new coat of Black Mica.
Welcome to the obsession.

Welcome to the obsession.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Congrats mate! Did you pick up this one off the girl who lived in Dee Why? I remember this was on Carsales recently. It was priced a bit optimistically with almost 100K clicks but seems like you got a good deal!
There's another titanium on the market but looks a bit more tired than this one.... from photos anyway!

Nah, wouldn't go Black Mica, instead of spending all that time needed to keep the Mica Black clean, you can spend it driving instead

As I said in the first post, this is all at least partly your fault! Haha.....

Yep that's the one, given it's condition the asking price wasn't too far off the mark.
I however did quite a bit better than the asking price, negotiating down on the basis still needing the 100K service, timing belt & water pump.....
I know the other one you're talking about, didn't even bother looking at it as, from the pictures it's had a hard life. A towbar? For dragging a trailer of stuff to the track perhaps?
There is another one in Sydney, not on carsales but down in the for sale threads listed by Dave2221 that I had a look at.
A good value package with lots being having done, 12 months rego, new roof, boost tee, some very nice wheels and more while still being largely original.

Thanks mate, my Astina is actually a 2002 model and will be kept as the daily driver.
The MX5 is purely a toy and a project car!

Re: Nev's NB SE
So I've been focusing mainly on doing lots of research before launching into doing any serious mods on my car.
I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that NSW stands for Nanny State Wowsers......
It seems that if you plan on doing any sort of power upgrade to your vehicle beyond replacing the wiper blades you need to get the car engineer certified.
All I want is a modest improvement, so I'm not embarased by mum in her camry with a load of kids and shopping and a bit more noise, say something better than the average sewing machine!
Looks like a fair whack of the budget will have to go on this.
Not so concerned about being defected (although that is a consideration) but more about having insurance declined should something unfortunate happen.
*Sigh*
As for the mods themselves, looking mainly at improving the bottom end and being as driveable in normal conditions as possible;
- CAI (with air box for legality)
- Intercooler upgrade (though probably not really necessary, it'll look good!)
- Exhaust (2.5" should be enough)
- MBC (or electronic?)
- Injector upgrade (though how big given I'm not hunting for a big power increase?)
- ECU or reflash + tuning
- WBO2 sensor (do I need one of these?)
Anything I've missed? (sheesh, this lot will cost enough!
)
.....and thanks to those members here I've been nagging via PM with my incessant questions, you're all champions!
Cheers,
Pete

Re: Nev's NB SE
BEGi make an enclosed CAI. If you're a DIYer, get the AEM CAI and make your own box.
Stick with a MBC, cheaper and less hassle.
2.5" exhausts are fine for the SEs tiny turbo but Dann's 3" is excellently priced and you probably can't beat that anywhere.
WBO2 is not necessary but nice to have, especially if you want to play around with an aftermarket ECU.
Boost gauge IS necessary with a MBC or EBC though.

Re: Nev's NB SE
Nice choice, I have an identical SE 2004 Titanium, had it since April, only had 65000, now at 74000.
Mostly MX5 Car Club runs and 2 track days.
Just the best fun and I'm 65 !!
Mine has aftermaket intercooler and larger exhaust. Tyres are Yokahama S Drives which seem very good at the track only one spin so far and that was by braking while turning in !!
Enjoy yourself and I recommend track days, great fun and very rewarding.

Re: Nev's NB SE
Yeah!.... Just got home and found my first box of bits on the doorstep!
Nothing too exciting, just clear side indicators and reflectors.
Needless to say they've already been installed...... Looks soooo much better.
Hmmmm...... need to head off now and order some more bits so I can eagerly await the next delivery!
This could become very adictive.
