For those who haven't joined in before, come along! There will be four events in 2014; March 30th, May 18th, September 21st, and November 16th. Each only costs $40 for the day and your MX5 club membership will cover you (ok, and you'll need a CAMS licence too...). There's no long sleeves/long pants/helmets required like at most other motorsport events, no walls or other cars for you to hit, and passengers are always welcome. There will be plenty of experienced people to help you out on the day and you'll learn a lot about your amazing little car.
Check the email below for full details and then PM me for an entry form.
Our first of 4 Motorkhanas currently scheduled for the 2014 calendar year will be held at the usual venue - the Vehicle Manoeuvring Area (VMA) of the Sutton Road, Transport Industries Skills Centre - on SUNDAY, 30 March 2014.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
At a motorkhana held last year a noise complaint was lodged with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). As a result, the Transport Industries Skills Centre whose facility we hire required the MG Car Club of Canberra to put in place an acceptable Noise Management Plan. We have done that and operated in compliance with the noise limitations since that time. BUT should there be a further noise complaint received it is likely that we would not be able to use the facility again.
That would most likely mean the end of motorkhanas in the ACT.
Therefore, if you think that your car’s exhaust will be too loud – see the attached Noise Management Plan for further information – please do not enter in that vehicle. If you really want to compete, beg or borrow a quieter model.
I would prefer not to have to decline an entry on the day because of the potential to exceed the allowable noise level. Such an action would not be pleasant for the organisers and an embarrassment to the competitor concerned.
At stake is the future of motorkhanas at Sutton road and we do not want to jeopardise our chance to run events in the future. A further breach of the EPA Regulations would be to the detriment of us all.
Unfortunately extra time may be needed at scrutiny to check vehicles so please accept that there may be some minor delays. We will do our best.
The entry costs have been maintained at the 2013 level so they remain highly competitive with like events and excellent value at $40 (Senior) and $20 (Junior) with a reduced rate for MGCC Canberra competitors driving an MG. I have attached the CAMS approved Supplementary Regulations (SR) and the Entry Form for the event. Please take time to read through the attachments - it is important that you be aware of the scheduled times for scrutineering and the drivers' briefing as set out in the SRs - failure to present on time may result in your place being given to someone else.
As usual there will be a total of 6 patterns set up on the day with 2 runs on each pattern.
To be eligible to compete, you will need to be a member of a CAMS affiliated car club and have a current CAMS licence - evidence of both will need to be produced to officials at the time of registration. If you need to take out club membership or obtain a CAMS licence, please let me know before the event as I can provide further assistance (although CAMS affiliated car club membership and licence requirements can be attended to on the day, we prefer that you make arrangements well in advance of the event).
Interest in our Motorkhana events is generally very strong and places are limited. To avoid disappointment, please email your completed entry form to me as early as possible. I suggest you complete the form on screen, save it with a new name that contains your name (this makes it easier for me to process) and then email it back to me. Entries are accepted on a "first in, first served" basis. And please let me know if you are no longer able to compete once you submit the Entry Form, as there are usually others keen to come along to whom we could offer your place.
Please note that an entry will only be accepted on the day if there are vacancies available up to the maximum limit prescribed in the CAMS Permit.
May I also remind you of the current policy ruling made by the Sutton Road facility that requires vehicles entered at all events held at Sutton Road to be road-registered. This applies to our Club's motorkhana events and is specifically covered in the SR’s.
I look forward to seeing you on the day and I hope the weather is kind to us!
Best regards,
Kent Brown
