Well there's a strong negotiating point, the cost of replacing that should get you at least another $1K off the asking price!

If you're wondering, just Google 'Bosectomy'....

I'm not a huge Bose fan, but at least it is in working order atm!

Welcome! Yeah, the NC would be the WTG, although might be worth considering a later NC, may be even NC2, if there's flexibility in your budget. Also given release of ND isn't too far away, it might even be worth waiting before going for an NC (BTW, I'm not suggesting you go for an ND).

Good point. I only drove the car for 20-25 minutes, but did get to try it out up a few twisty hills.

Thats fine though, shouldnt be any fitment/height issues then so as long as you feel comfortable in the car. Would have been good to test it out through some hills.

That does look immaculate. Good that its only a 1 owner with books etc.

Hope it works out for you :D

-edit Okibi - no need to quote the post directly above your own-

I think I've decided on the purchase. I'm just haggling on the price atm, so we'll see where things go.

Many thanks to all for the informative, non judgmental input.

Ozi.

I think someone buying an mx5 is just as exciting for us that already own one (or many) as it is for the one buying it  :D

Update on MX5 purchase.

I couldn't get the price I needed, so I have gone back to looking. I drove several in Newcastle last weekend. I can't get the price I'm looking for so I am content to be patient. Something will come along in time.

Patience is a virtue ;) Good luck, I'm sure the right car at the right price will come along.

Don't forget to check out the Cars For Sale section of hte forum too, some good buys in there and mostly from owners who look after their cars.

Thanks Lachy. I'm still on the lookout. Spotted one south of here this morning. Will hopefully get a drive next week and maybe make an offer.

Have finally found an MX5, within walking distance of my home! I will hopefully pick it up tomorrow and start enjoying some nice afternoon rides to Dorrigo and elsewhere.

Specs:
1989 MX5
Red (of course)
167K
Very nice original condition except for wheels/steering wheel which don't look too bad

I'll post some pics when I get the chance.

Happy camper indeed!

looking at 2005 and goes for 1989 and doing 50,000 ilm per year. Boy that seems odd. '89 now is within months of a being an Historic in VIC.

Seems odd indeed I must admit, but in the meantime I have bought another vehicle for the longer/freeway-all-day trips. Always wanted an MX5 but I just wasn't sure about spending $16K on my first one, so I've spent $4K instead. We'll see how things progress.

It does indeed reflect the extreme randomness of some car purchasers in Australia, well certainly in SE Melbourne compared with the whole of the UK to my certain knowledge.
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

Good choice, although random! Although after having done a reasonable 6 hour drive up to 1770, the crashy suspension, loud exhaust and wind noise was getting tiresome. Keep it stock if planning long distance.
