Are NCs E85 compatible?

NC is not Ethanol compatible BUT it has been running on tuned cars here and in the US for a couple of years without problems.
You will need injector upgrade and probably a fuel pump AND a tune is a MUST to make it all happen.
With an ethanol sensor installed you will be able to manually switch tunes between the various ethanol contents as you mix fuels by just a little finger dance on the cruise controls.
Up to 4 tunes will be there for you.

Ther is no setup that I know of yet that will automatically adjust for E content...If there was I'd have it!!

I admit to not following some of the logic- the bloke says its Not Ethanol compatible Mazda and the other car co's make such statements as a clear warning. Insofar as saying no one has any problem is not provable- maybe they are used for race engines but typically they are built for KW and modified and not doing 20,000 klm a year . The engine that fails or a system that fails may never be diagnosed correctly as far as cause is concerned.

PRR re the engine failure- the exact problem I cannot recall accurately. It was a classic car and it was a total show stopper and it did occur very quickly. He suspected the fuel immediately because the car ground to a halt very soon after the fuel was added to low tank.

E 10 is OK after 2006

Thanks - being a classic car, I guess the owner should've know better.

But by the sounds of it, the ethanol stripped all the deposits/muck out of the 20-30yo+ fuel system and the staved the engine of fuel, probably causing excessive knock with the fuel rations out of wack until something broke. Pretty normal scenerio in regards to ethanol fuels and very old cars.

Oh dear, I should've read the manual first. It says no more than 10% ethanol, so definitely not E85 compatible. Still loving the power shift!

PRR the guy was very knowledgeable just got caught with having to use this fuel and took on board a small qty and apparently the failure was very quick. I guess if nothing else one might even think any qty esp in an older car comes with verboten in caps.

I've just had my NB set up for E85 with a flex sensor. It has two tunes, one for 98 and one for e85. The sensor tells the ECU the composition of the fuel passing through it, and adjusts between the two maps to suit the mix. The only intervention from the driver is the bowser he/she fills from.

The ECU is a Haltech PS1000.

I'm in the process of setting up my NA6/8 with ITBs to also have dual-tune E85 and 98. The ECU will smoothly add more fuel and spark as more ethanol is present in the fuel. If I want, I could also go to the trouble and have two independent maps (fuel/spark) and smoothly blend between them. More complex and hopefully not needed.
